Due to our tremendous growth we have an opening for a Specialist: Technical Services, Pipe . This position reports to the Manager -Technical Services and is located in Houston, Texas. Below are details of the position requirements:
This person must be a team player and will be required to interact closely with sales, marketing, QA/QC, R&D, product development, product stewardship and plant manufacturing groups and personnel to address product related technical issues/concerns and work with the plant personnel to determine corrective actions. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to write detailed technical presentations/reports.
The ideal candidate will be well versed in polymers, compounding and product certifications and approvals necessary for pipe applications (both pressure and non-pressure) and have demonstrated expertise in the technical service environment. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience and expertise in polyethylene (PE) pipe extrusion. Experience with compounding of polymers and additives will also be considered a plus. Knowledge and application of polymer rheology fundamentals and principles will be a plus.
Develop the Technical Service strategy together with the Senior Manager Marketing and Sales for the Americas region
Develop a roadmap for HDPE bimodal pressure pipe certifications in the North America and International markets
Lead the HDPE pipe certifications process on behalf of the Polymers Marketing and Sales team
Act as the technical adviser of the Polymers team and manage the technical interfaces with all stakeholders
Assist the Polymers team with all technical project related work
Develop and maintain expertise regarding the global polymer conversion industry, product and application trends
Represent Sasol in a technical, ethical and professional manner at pipe trade shows, standard technical committees (ASTM, ASME, CSA, etc.), industry associations and exhibitions (PPI, etc.)
Assist in assessing, developing, implementing and managing the promotion of Polymers` products and the Sasol brand in the Americas
Develop, maintain and improve relationships with customers in the Americas
Work closely with and advise customers regarding new product lines and business developments on an ongoing basis
Assist in maintaining and growing sales volumes and market share for Sasol’s Polymers products with existing and new customers in the Americas
Provide compounding process and/or additive optimization support
Provide technical support for production plants
Assist in the commercialization of new resins at the plants
Assist with on-site support as needed for plant start-ups
Promote Safety and Operational Excellence
Provide weekly updates and monthly reports
Review and investigate quality claims pertaining to product or contamination and drive process for resolution
As represent Sasol in a professional and constructive manner to assure all customers, suppliers, and related actions and activities follow the Sasol ethics policy and result in qualifications, approvals, and subsequent positive contribution for Sasol products.
Experience and/or Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required
Master’s degree in Plastic Materials preferred
Minimum of 3 -5 years technical service experience with 3 or more years of experience in the chemical and/or polymers industry
Experience in PE pipe certifications preferred
