HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow/Epidemiologist supporting the Division of Tropical Public Health, Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. Responsibilities include project design and performance analytically assessing biomarkers such as clinical exam findings, clinical laboratory results, exploratory assays results, and other characteristics of patients and communities in the context of patient- and community-centered outcomes. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Sanford Chair in Tropical Medicine.
Initiates, develops, and collaborates in preparing research proposals and grant applications, including study design.
Assists project execution, in particular those aspects necessary to the accumulation of data for clinical epidemiologic analysis.
Performs appropriate clinical epidemiologic analyses and generates knowledge products on results including material for peer reviewed venues such as scientific reports for scholarly dissemination at professional meetings and in peer-reviewed publications.
Uses clinical trial and other computer software including major statistical programs for data storage, merging and manipulation, data analysis and generation of figures and tables.
Works both independently and collaboratively with faculty to analyze and to correctly interpret data across a wide range of disciplines that may apply to patient- and community-centered outcomes.
Periodically participate in supporting educational activities.
Completes other projects as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of clinical services settings and clinical research, as well as statistical analysis, epidemiology, and study design. Proficiency with statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS and STATA. Strong communication skills and a customer-service driven attitude are essential.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology with a focus on clinical settings is preferred.
Minimum Experience: > 4 years of experience in epidemiology. Ideally the successful applicant will have work experience as a healthcare provider, and/ or substantial community-level public health or clinical product research experience.
Physical Capabilities: Requires long periods of sitting and standing and working at a computer. International travel to field site visits in resource limited settings will be required.
Work Environment: Office, classroom environment as well as occasional international clinical research site visits.
