Job Description: Early Childhood Education Coordinator

The Museum at Prairiefire is currently seeking a dynamic, positive, talented and genuinely outgoing individual to join our team as a Youth Programs Specialist.

Come ready to inspire children to discover natural history and science subjects from a unique perspective.

The Early Childhood Education Coordinator will play an integral role developing and delivering youth programs. Responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating Learning Experiences (80% Responsibilities)
  • Facilitate and engage toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary school-aged children in natural history and STEAM programs
  • Facilitate learning in the Discovery Room and other areas of the museum
  • Program Development (15% Responsibilities)
  • Develop and implement innovative and interactive learning experiences that engage young children
  • Collaborate with museum team to develop, implement, and facilitate programming
  • Write copy for marketing
  • Program Administration (5% Responsibilities)
  • Speedily address any visitor issues and concerns; follow up on comments and questions and continuously improve our processes and outcomes
  • Maintain budget and acquisition of supplies for programs
  • Report program attendance and progress regularly
  • Utilize museum email and other computer programs effectively

We are looking for the following skill sets and characteristics in the Youth Programs Specialist:

  • Passionate about the mission of the Museum to enhance public understanding of science and natural history
  • Must enjoy working and engaging with the public and able to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with all ages
  • Early childhood or elementary school teaching experience with a bachelor’s in science or education
  • Confident and skillful in communicating complicated STEAM topics to early childhood learners, elementary, and middle-school age students
  • Comfortable and skillful dealing with a broad range of people including colleagues, external partners, donors, and visitors of all ages and backgrounds
  • Enjoys and pursues learning and teaching new topics with enthusiasm
  • Excellent problem solving skills, initiative, and ability to think on your feet and get the job done
  • Available to work weekends and evenings
  • Energetic, upbeat team player, strong work ethic, low ego
