Position Overview:
Assists with monitoring and maintaining a public library facility in a team environment. Provides security and monitoring to maintain a safe and inviting atmosphere at the Library. Enforces library policies and rules, and investigates and handles disturbances related to library property, building use, and grounds. Assists with building and grounds maintenance, food monitoring, cleanup and disposal, vacuuming, and general cleaning of public library areas. Responsible for event and program setup and cleanup as assigned.
The anticipated schedule is Mon-Fri from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM with alternating Saturdays from 9:45 AM to 4:15 PM and special event hours as assigned. The hiring decision is contingent upon the applicant clearing a background check and drug screening. Applications reviewed online.
Key Responsibilities/Functions:
- Ensures all users find the library buildings and grounds safe, clean, and enjoyable.
- Monitors the building and ensures that patrons are following library rules and expectations.
- Provides excellent customer service while working with the public.
- Assists with emptying trash/recycling, performing general cleaning tasks, mopping, dusting, cleaning and stocking restrooms, and vacuuming.
- Monitors patron food use and ensures patrons follow library rules and expectations.
- Assists with gardening, seasonal sidewalk maintenance, and general grounds upkeep.
- Serves as a greeter to patrons entering the Library and answers directional, informational, and other questions in a friendly and cheerful manner.
- Performs security and welcoming functions for Library programs and special events as assigned.
- Provides emergency response and cleaning as needed.
- Sets up and tears down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting and function rooms.
- Use hand and power tools in minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.
- Assists in assembling and moving library supplies and materials.
- Checks building at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Adheres to prescribed safety and custodial procedures.
Qualifications:
- Experience in any of the following fields: custodial, environmental services, customer service, hospitality, or facilities maintenance.
- Ability to communicate with supervisors and peer groups promptly and effectively.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, written instructions, product labels and instructions, and other written job materials.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member.
Wage: $15.00/hr.
Work Shift
- Anticipated Mon-Fri 7:30 AM - 1:00 PM (Some shift flexibility is required to ensure adequate service coverage.)
- Alternating Saturdays 9:45 AM -4:15 PM
- Special events as assigned
