Hospice of the Carolina Foothills is seeking a full-time Manager for our 12-bed inpatient facility in Forest City, NC.
Located in the beautiful foothills of Western North Carolina, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills (HOCF) is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides state-of-the-art, compassionate care for those affected by serious illness, grief and loss. Serving Rutherford, Polk and McDowell Counties in North Carolina, with the main office located in Forest City, NC, HOCF is certified by Medicare and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.
The Inpatient Unit Manager is responsible for assuring that in-patient care services are delivered in compliance with state, federal and all regulatory agencies and in accordance with hospice philosophy and concepts of care and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the inpatient unit. The Inpatient Unit Manager supervises the facility staff and upholds the mission, goals and values of HOCF at all times.
LINE OF AUTHORITY
- Supervised by: Vice President of Clinical Services
- Supervises: IPU Facility Staff
- Channels of communication: Verbally communicates with the Director of Clinical Services and all team members as appropriate. The chain of command will be maintained at all times to uphold the open lines of communication throughout the organization.
- Education: Associate degree in Nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: At least 2 years in health care management. Supervisory experience in a health care setting is preferred. Hospice experience preferred.
- Current multi-state Registered Nurse license (NC/SC), in good standing.
- Valid driver’s license in state of residence and current auto insurance required.
- Excellent computer skills required.
- Understanding of hospice and palliative care reimbursement, state and federal regulations that govern the provision of hospice services, including Medicare/Medicaid and 3rd party reimbursement, licensure, certification and accreditation standards.
- Strong leadership abilities and demonstrates effective management skills. Ability to supervise, communicate and organize effectively. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with interdisciplinary team members.
- Possesses clinical knowledge and skills, with the ability to analyze processes, situations, services and develop plans to improve deficiencies.
- Ability to be innovative, communicate effectively, and demonstrate a commitment to team service and the hospice and palliative care philosophy and practice.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and integrity at all times.
- Demonstrates commitment to the HOCF Standards of Conduct.
- Physical requirements: Regularly required to: stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, use tools and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to: taste and/or smell, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 50 lbs. Ability to transfer patients in excess of 200 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to sit for long periods, climb stairs and view a computer screen and use fine motor skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIIBILITIES
- Supervise daily activities of Inpatient Unit keeping the Vice President of Clinical Services informed. Assist with the review, revision and continued development of policies and procedures.
- Responsible for 24-hour coverage of the facility, including staff scheduling, assuring adequate staffing to meet patient and family needs as cost efficient as possible.
- Supervise performance of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Cooks and Housekeepers.
- Collaborate with leadership to provide appropriate and necessary training and resources to staff.
- Facilitate weekly Interdisciplinary Team meetings and maintain knowledgeable about overall patient census and status.
- Collaborate with primary physician, Medical Director, and staff physician in determining appropriate levels of care and plans of care for each patient.
- Oversee purchasing of patient care supplies, durable medical equipment, medications and dietary supplies as cost effective as possible.
- Collaborate with Dietician on meal planning and record keeping.
- Collaborate with maintenance team as needed to ensure safety and proper upkeep of the facility.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure appropriate and timely processing of admissions and transfers involving the Inpatient Unit.
- Oversee situations that may arise with patient family members to ensure patient/family satisfaction.
- Conduct appropriate supervisory visits which allows for clinical observation of performance of team members.
- Perform patient admissions and nursing visits as needed.
- Oversee timely reporting of payroll and billing issues.
- Demonstrate and teach the mission and values of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
- Collaborate with Human Resources in meeting requirements for maintenance of personnel files.
- Promote and demonstrate high quality customer service.
- Support and participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and working relationship with staff members and others.
