Position End Date: April/May 2020 at approximately 20 hours per week. Time tocompletion is driven by member schedule and will be customized for each member.
Days / Hours of Service: 675 hours total service. Generally Monday through Friday; 10:00am-3:00pm,but varies weekly according to school schedule and member schedule. We areflexible to work around your class schedule for current college students.
Member Position Summary: The Coordinator is a passionate and well-written individual who helps engage Learning Undefeated’s digital audiences through creative and collaborative content. In this role, the Coordinator will design and develop student-focused outreach, social media campaigns, and content for a variety of platforms, support the executive team, build engagement, and share the work of the organization in meaningful and compelling ways.
Coordinator will also have the opportunity to design a student-focused program, activity, or experience to be implemented at a future Learning Undefeated event.

Program Mission and/or Goals: Learning Undefeated operates four mobile laboratory programsacross Maryland, expanding technology and laboratory science experiences topique students’ interests in STEM learning and careers. Inside each lab, Learning Undefeated educators engageparticipants in hands-on and minds-on experiences using technologies notavailable in schools.
The goal of our education programs are to provide support tostudents from underresourced neighborhoods and communities to boost theirproficiency and self-efficacy in math and science. Learning Undefeated achieves this by engagingstudents in academically rigorous programs focused on science and technology,increasing their awareness of STEM career opportunities, and encouragingstudents to choose additional STEM coursework, college majors, or careers. We also offer community engagement to providestudents’ family members opportunities to learn about STEM so they may bettersupport their student at home.
Community Need: Enhancing diversity in the pipeline of students andearly-career employees who are actively choosing to study and work in STEM isthe key to long-term economic growth and competitiveness. Learning Undefeatedactively seeks to engage students from underrepresented minority groups andlevel the playing field by bringing hands-on learning experiences to theschool’s parking lot. We believe that any student can achieve success in STEM.
Our programs focus on students who are typicallyunderrepresented in STEM careers, especially those from low-income communities.Introducing students to real-world, problem-centric curriculum allows them togain a deeper appreciation for STEM subjects, better equips them to retaininformation learned in the classroom, and fosters the development of naturalinquiry, higher-level thinking, and creativity.

Compensation: Compensation package for Americorps members consists of a Segal Education Grant of up to $2,321 for 675 hours of service, which can be used to pay for college courses and also used towards student loans, and a small living stipend of up to $6,400, paid biweekly. The Segal Education Grant is awarded upon completion of service; details on the education award can be found here. Our program is currently in the 2018 fiscal year for education awards. Learning Undefeated AmeriCorps members are also eligible for mileage at the Federal rate for personally-owned vehicles, which is currently $0.58 per mile in excess of 30 miles per day.
