Position Start Date: Fall cohort begins October 2019

Position End Date: April/May 2020 at approximately 20 hours per week. Time tocompletion is driven by member schedule and will be customized for each member.

Days / Hours of Service: 675 hours total service. Generally Monday through Friday; 10:00am-3:00pm,but varies weekly according to school schedule and member schedule. We areflexible to work around your class schedule for current college students.

Member Position Summary: The Coordinator is a passionate and well-written individual who helps engage Learning Undefeated’s digital audiences through creative and collaborative content. In this role, the Coordinator will design and develop student-focused outreach, social media campaigns, and content for a variety of platforms, support the executive team, build engagement, and share the work of the organization in meaningful and compelling ways.

Coordinator will also have the opportunity to design a student-focused program, activity, or experience to be implemented at a future Learning Undefeated event.

Program Mission and/or Goals: Learning Undefeated operates four mobile laboratory programsacross Maryland, expanding technology and laboratory science experiences topique students’ interests in STEM learning and careers. Inside each lab, Learning Undefeated educators engageparticipants in hands-on and minds-on experiences using technologies notavailable in schools.

The goal of our education programs are to provide support tostudents from underresourced neighborhoods and communities to boost theirproficiency and self-efficacy in math and science. Learning Undefeated achieves this by engagingstudents in academically rigorous programs focused on science and technology,increasing their awareness of STEM career opportunities, and encouragingstudents to choose additional STEM coursework, college majors, or careers. We also offer community engagement to providestudents’ family members opportunities to learn about STEM so they may bettersupport their student at home.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Conceptualizes, createsand publishes daily content (combining both original copy and images as well asimages and videos provided by the MdBio team) on Twitter, LinkedIN, Facebook,and Instagram that shares stories of our successes, builds meaningfulconnections, and encourages engagement.
  • Collects and organizesphotos and videos from MdBio field staff, for use in social outreach.
  • Records, edits, andcreates videos that showcase MdBio’s work and enhance our partnerships.
  • Grows online socialnetworks by increasing followers and interactions. Employs innovative tacticsto grow the audiences and reach influencers.
  • Collaborates with VP,Communications and VP, Partnerships to ensure a consistent campaign acrosschannels.
  • Researches articles,stories, resources or other content to enhance MdBio’s original content.
  • Reviews data on theperformance of social media platforms and adjust plans or strategies tooptimize outreach

Required Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities:

Candidate must:

  • Complywith AmeriCorps terms, including being a U.S. Resident or Lawful PermanentResident
  • Mustpossess own transportation (location may vary within 50 miles) and be willingto travel up to 200 miles per week (mileage reimbursed). Hotel accommodationsand meals/travel expenses will be paid when distance exceeds 75 miles ofmember’s home.
  • Mustpass a criminal and sex offender background check, and able to pass a drugscreening
  • Reliableand punctual; timeliness and dependability are critical for this role.Excellent time management required.
  • Abilityto follow instructions and work cooperatively with other team members, MdBioeducators, staff and administrators
  • Interestin education, science, technology, engineering, math, education, or any othersimilar field
  • Mustbe able to use and have access to the internet
  • Abilityto work independently and with a team
  • Possessexcellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and beself-motivated

Required Academic and ExperienceQualifications:

  • Musthave completed a minimum of 24 hours of undergraduate coursework at a communitycollege or above
  • At least two years working withyouth
  • Possessstrong communication and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrateeffective time management and organization skills

Compensation: Compensation package for Americorps members consists of a Segal Education Grant of up to $2,321 for 675 hours of service, which can be used to pay for college courses and also used towards student loans, and a small living stipend of up to $6,400, paid biweekly. The Segal Education Grant is awarded upon completion of service; details on the education award can be found here. Our program is currently in the 2018 fiscal year for education awards. Learning Undefeated AmeriCorps members are also eligible for mileage at the Federal rate for personally-owned vehicles, which is currently $0.58 per mile in excess of 30 miles per day.
