This is an Equity position to start, in lieu of salary. Once investment capital is realized, the position will turn equity plus salary. This will be negotiable. The right candidate will understand the startup culture and risk upfront with the C-level executives to build a successful startup. Driver Watchdog is an intelligent telematics hardware/software solution designed for vehicle fleet and mobile heavy equipment management. The technology provides on-demand monitoring and real-time reporting of the individual driver’s performance, safety and security of vehicles, and information supporting fleet operations at-large. Through Driver Watchdog’s patented product and proprietary software, the device’s connectivity and resulting analytics help ensure driver safety while also minimizing costs associated with vehicle operations and fleet management compliance.

Our product, www.mydriverwatchdog.com is a revolutionary device that collects vast amounts of data that needs to be analyzed and delivered back to our customers to provide valuable insight to fleet management to ensure responsible driving behaviors of their employees.

We are Looking for a Chief technical Officer who will take a key role on our team. Must have knowledge in all stages of software development. Being a hands-on, extremely motivated and entrepreneurial-minded CTO overseeing our development team and leading strategic technical direction. Overseeing development of the technology that drives the business. As part of a growing team you will need to roll up your sleeves to lead and grow a team of engineers, and to drive and implement technological decisions.

As a C-Level executive, the CTO is a key member of Management making important technical and business decisions that will shape the company’s future. This position requires interaction with members of Management and the board.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Further establishing the company’s technical vision and lead all aspects of the company’s technological development.
  • Directs the company’s strategic direction, development and future growth.
  • Lead architectural efforts that ensure the product is scalable, highly performant, and with minimal risk of downtime.
  • Works in a consultative fashion with other department heads, such as marketing, production, sales and operations as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership to department heads in a fashion that supports the company’s strategic goals
  • Manage, maintain and support our AWS infrastructure
  • Conducts research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on the probability of implementation.

Experience,Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or similar
  • 5+ years in a management or leadership role
  • 6+ years’ experience software engineering
  • Proven track record in leading a team of engineers, in both a technical and project management capacity
  • Experience in mentoring new team members, performing reviews, and hiring new staff
  • Experienced in startup environment
  • Javascript, HTML, CSS experience is highly desirable as well as experience with modern JS frameworks such as NodeJS
  • Knowledge of relational databases (MS SQL), as well as in-memory key-value data stores (Redis)
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services
  • Development experience in both mobile and desktop web applications
  • Knowledge of the cellular phone industry and text messaging preferred
  • Familiarity with the commercial software development process with good software hygiene regarding code documentation, unit testing, bug tracking, and branch management
  • Self-management and strong prioritization skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with excellent oral and written English communication skills in client-facing communications
  • Highly motivated, team player with a track record of technical leadership and technical collaboration
  • Desire to be part of a fast-moving start-up and work in a fast-paced, collaborative, environment with few rigid boundaries

The incumbent must have a deep understanding of technical and business issues related to web-based product and service offerings with a strong focus on web services and customer relationship management systems. Previous track record of driving continuous improvement in an agile product engineering environment and keeping teams focused on delivering on time while maintaining optimal availability is required. Demonstrated success of establishing, managing and maintaining effective working relationships at the senior management level, internal and external to the organization is needed. Strong negotiation skills to influence strategic issues requiring coordination across functional lines or influencing senior leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization is also needed. Must be able to work independently and maintain tight deadlines. Strong results orientation with demonstrated track record of success is needed. Must have deep and repeated experience building and scaling products and teams. Analytical competence to distill data into actionable recommendations and to identify opportunities, challenges, and risks is a must for this role. Must be able to influence others and work collaboratively in order to produce results across multiple functional teams.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all audiences – customers to engineers; individual contributors to executives, etc. Also able to develop compelling structured, logical arguments. Must be able to deal with legacy systems at the same time as being able to create something new and knowing when to do each one. Must be a creative thinker with extraordinary business, strategic, analytical, management and relationship skills. Must have extraordinary team management skills, demonstrated experience in motivating a large team of geographically dispersed individuals; establishing a unifying team vision, ensuring thorough communication of goals, company strategy, and team best practices; and delegating and mentoring to develop team skills and capabilities. Comfortable working in an incredibly fast-paced, innovative environment, ideally has a burning desire to win, a strong competitive spirit, and a positive outlook is important.

Salary: $100,000.00 to $150,000.00 /year
