PAY RATE: $15.00/hr
The Head Gymnastics Coach provides leadership and management for the Gymnastics team in the areas of staff, budget, and fundraising, as well as program and membership experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Assist with oversight of Assistant coaches and participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and live the YMCA mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and supervise a high performing coaching staff focused on providing exceptional service, instruction and work well as a team.
- Develop strategies to provide support and motivation to staff for the achievement of goals and retention.
- Maintain assistant coach retention through positive reinforcement and support.
- Responsible for documenting coaches meetings, development and trainings.
- Ensure the team complies with YMCA standards and methods of operation and coach certification records are current in accordance the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley and specified sport organization requirements.
- Integrate member-service and engagement strategies into all interactions with parents to ensure positive team recruitment and retention; keep accurate records of retention, member and non-member participation.
- Build and expand program enrollment and participation.
- Monitor and evaluate delivery and effectiveness of team and coaches for the highest possible level of quality; review and evaluate coaching staff performance.
- Be visible and approachable to coaches, participants, parents and members.
- Respond to all parent, member and community inquiries and concerns regarding the team within 24 hours.
- Communicate team information, changes and needs in a timely manner to supervisor and branch staff.
- Provide written and verbal communication to all team parents and coaches for clear understanding of practices, travel and YMCA team policies.
- Develop, monitor and meet or exceed budget targets.
- Produce effective and efficient coaching schedules in accordance with budget parameters.
- Maintain program area and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe condition and report any irregularities to supervisor.
- Keep an up-to-date and accurate inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.
- Serve as a member of the branch management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
- Communicate information promptly to all branch leadership and departmental staff.
- Report any accidents, concerns, equipment troubles immediately. Fill out incident reports when needed and submit to supervisor.
- Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
- Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements and attend all in-service and staff meetings. Attend applicable training and conferences to further professional development.
- Adherence to all policies and procedures of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley
- Regular and timely adherence to schedule/meetings; schedule/meetings should reflect the needs of the program, branch and team; including evenings and weekends. Follow established procedures for absences and secure approval from supervisor of a sub when needed.
- All other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Branch Executive.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior gymnastics coaching experience required.
- Able to lead and coach teams and individuals and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages
- Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines. Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision.
- Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times.
CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to pass background check
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification*
- Mandatory Reporter*
*Note: The * noted certification training programs must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified. Some are available through employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to routinely perform the following physical activities as dictated by the sport; run, climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp and perform repetitive motions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see close and far range and hear. Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to small children and program equipment. The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants and activities occurring in the facility. This position works in a variety of environments, which can include, but are not limited to, sports complexes, schools, and gymnasiums.
