SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible to perform a variety of skilled duties required to maintain vertical, horizontal and 5-axis CNC machines and other plant equipment to expected levels of performance and production readiness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement and Perform advanced preventive and predictive maintenance inspections and tasks.
  • Check and adjust flatness, level/alignment of machine beds, linear and rotary axis tool and pallet changers.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting/diagnostics on equipment mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and CNC control systems.
  • Determine appropriate corrective action including needed repairs, overhaul, rebuild, including all parts and supplies required.
  • Perform & observe an operational check to ensure problem has been corrected.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and sequence work including ordering required parts and staging necessary tools and equipment.
  • Determine and/or develop maintenance procedures when documentation is not available and devise and make tools/equipment to facilitate work.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance work performed.
  • Enforce equipment lockout procedures for all machines and equipment when repairs are being performed.
  • Work in a team environment which includes assisting others in completion of tasks, giving and receiving feedback.
  • Train machine maintenance technicians and operators in preventative maintenance.
  • Oversee work done by various outside contractors hired to do repairs on machines.

COMPETENCIES

  • In depth understanding of CNC controls.
  • Knowledge of automatic tool changers, pallet changers, ball screw & axis support bearing replacement, machine alignment and spindle cartridge replacement.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Able to read blueprints, electrical schematics and hydraulic diagrams, and understand the application of technical documents such as machine/equipment manuals and safety documentation.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift, with openness to overtime as required to ensure efficiency of machines and equipment.
  • Follows instructions and demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  • Communicates well verbally and in writing.
  • Possess good interpersonal, listening, and participation skills including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety practices and techniques.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Strong skills and aptitude in math.
  • Ability to competently use and understand testing equipment such as multimeter.
  • Very good organizational skills and the ability to understand technical specifications.
  • Basic understanding of material management and testing.
  • Operate forklift, scissor lift or other support equipment as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is in an operational manufacturing plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing environments for a periodic extend work days to include; exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, fumes and/or airborne particles, vibration, bright light and slippery conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle/feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; pull; balance; carry; handle.The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by the job that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.Ability to walk and stand on concrete surfaces for significant amount of time during work day.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Hours/days of work will fluctuate as needed and required.

TRAVEL

No Travel is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5+ years hands on experienceas a Machine Maintenance Technicianin Manufacturing
  • Experience with Makino, Haas, & other like machines. Induction unit experience preferred but not required.
  • Prefer two-year degree, diploma or certificate from an accredited vocational or technical institute, or technical military training.
  • Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems, such as opening and closing files.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATION(s)

Ability to read/write/speak and understand English while performing required tasks, in emergencies or other situations to promote safety and/orcooperative work assignments.
