Job Description:

MicroLink Devices is seeking a Senior MOCVD Growth Engineer to support the development and sustaining of epitaxial processes for III-V compound semiconductor devices including GaAs-based solar cells for space, UAV, and terrestrial applications. MicroLink’s current device technologies are focused on ultra-thin, GaAs-based multi-junction solar cells fabricated using an epitaxial lift-off (ELO) technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Developing and improving the MOCVD epitaxial growth process used for the production of III-V compound semiconductor-based devices.

2. Transitioning and optimizing processes from development stage to high volume production scale.

3. Providing process engineering support for ongoing solar cell epitaxial wafer production

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and improving the MOCVD epitaxial growth process in manufacturing III-V compound semiconductor-based HBT, pHEMT, BiFET, and Solar Cell wafers.
  • Develop epitaxy process for GaN based devices for future products.
  • Carry out characterization, failure analysis, and novel material research and development and generate new and novel IP.
  • Implement improvements to existing manufacturing processes to increase yield and throughput.
  • Work with semiconductor tool vendors to evaluate, purchase and qualify new tool sets.
  • Carry out root cause analysis of manufacturing yield issues.
  • Establish and monitor statistical process control (SPC) control charts for production processes.
  • Create and update work instructions to document new processes.
  • Assist in the training of production technicians of new processes.
  • Assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of MOCVD reactors and support equipments.
  • Lead and support government development program including writing SBIR grant proposals and reports.

Education and qualification:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field is desired
  • Experience in MOCVD epitaxial growth preferred, GaN epitaxy experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Prior experience in the epitaxial growth of solar cells or related semiconductor devices is required.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills
  • Highly detail oriented and self motivated
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
