The Data Science Learning Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a predoctoral appointee to conduct research in artificial intelligence techniques to analyze large-scale imaging datasets for discovering underlying graph structures. The focus of this project is to use the reconstructed graphs to improve biological or machine learning models. An example of this is the inference of neuron connection maps for driving spiking neural networks that model organism behavior. The project will survey graph discovery methods, biology-inspired learning algorithms, and co-design of advanced AI systems. Additionally, we will develop techniques that provide robust interpretation to the results extracted from such approaches.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
Must have a Master’s degree
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
Knowledge of machine learning theories and/or statistics required
Skilled in developing deep learning applications (e.g., imaging, biomedical data)
Familiar with recurrent neural networks, reinforcement learning, or meta-learning
Knowledge of neuroscience is a plus, but not required
Experience with HPC, accelerators, brain-inspired platforms is a plus, but not required
Good communications skills, both verbal and written
Considerable collaborative skills
