The Senior Manager, Accounting is responsible for directing the accounting function for a specific area of responsibility within the organization. Responsible for developing accounting policies, procedures and controls and implementing accounting systems pertaining to a specific business unit or accounting function while ensuring that the reporting and activities adhere to GAAP and company policies.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for accuracy of the financial statements and management reports for specific area of responsibility and presenting results to the leadership of that area and accounting department
Direct and control general accounting activities, including recording company transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and company policy; implement accounting policies and ensure those policies are communicated to team as well as the area of responsibility
Propose recommendations for changes and improvements to accounting policies/procedures; may manage the team working on implementing changes to policies/procedures
Review reports supporting internal and external audits; work with internal and external audit as needed; responsible for resolution of open items and root cause analysis with resolution; ensure outside audits are compliant with contracts or regulations
Manage accounts for reconciliation and resolution of open items; responsible for the research and correction of escalated issues and exceptions
Audit compliance with contracts, negotiated terms, and applicable regulations; responsible for external communications to resolve issues and for communications to management for non-compliant items
Develop relationships cross-functionally and with customers to ensure positive interactions, resolutions, and outcomes of inquiries and issues
Responsible for results of outsourcing provider work product, business results and compliance to ensure proper procedures, control reports, and oversight is done with outsourced work
Other responsibilities as judgment or necessity dictate.

Required qualifications, skills and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Audit or related area of study
Certified Public Accountant certification
7 years’ work experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or Auditing in a public company
5 years of leadership / people management experience

Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for the development, oversight and implementation of departmental budget
Responsible for leading a team through teaching, coaching and inspiring by fostering a sense of energy, ownership and a responsibility for the flawless execution of operational excellence; engage in the selection and hiring process as needed

Travel Requirements
Willing to travel up to 15% of the time

Desired qualifications, skills and experience

Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Strong problem-solving, documentation research, data analysis and multi-tasking sills; ability to work independently and with a small team in a fast-paced environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
Detail oriented with strong organization and time management skills; ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all skill levels internally and externally
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
