Summary: The physician assistant works in the ONS Urgent Care Center and will assess and treat urgent musculoskeletal injuries. This is an opportunity to take on a leadership role in the operations of ONS Urgent Care. The full time position covers weekday afternoons in office, and Urgent Care evening hours, and potentially some Saturday afternoons.
Performs and documents history and physicals of walk-in patients.
Evaluates and treats injuries including sprains, strains, fractures, wound care and post op problems.
Performs in-office procedures such as cast/splint placements, wound care and managing infection.
Orders X-rays and other diagnostic tests as needed.
Consistently and accurately documents all calls, treatments, medications, etc. in patient chart.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding diagnosis and follow up steps.
Responds to all patient questions.
Assists physicians in addressing urgent patient needs as necessary.
Maintains clinical information with additions/corrections as needed.
Performs other duties/projects as assigned
Professional Experience/Educational Requirements
Valid Connecticut PA license.
Graduate of an approved PA school and has certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Holds required DEA license and Connecticut controlled substances license.
Minimum 3 years orthopedic or emergency room experience preferred.
Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Medical office environment. Physical ability to perform the job related duties which may require lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, pulling and pushing. Exposure to bodily fluids.
