Chenmark Capital Management - Portland, ME (30+ days ago)

Who we are:

We are a small team passionate about bringing the big ideas in technology into the world of small business. Our company, Chenmark Capital Management, is a family-owned investment company that purchases small businesses and helps them to run and grow in perpetuity. As one of our core areas of focus is technology, we are looking for someone with a passion for problem solving and well rounded technical and people skills to help us tackle both lingering problems and new innovations in our portfolio of small businesses. That’s where you come in.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate has a fairly well-rounded, security-minded skillset, rooted not in any one specific technology, but built on a solid foundation of computer science fundamentals. You enjoy learning new skills (and languages, platforms, technologies) while applying your experiences from the past to solving real, tangible business and technology problems. You enjoy the reward of seeing real businesses improve and thrive by applying your solutions and expertise. You can communicate complex ideas clearly to any audience, enjoy working in a small team environment, and happily accept the diversity of challenges (and room for innovation) that come with a startup atmosphere.

  • BS/BA in computer science or demonstrated mastery of the fundamentals required. You’ll be working across the full stack of various technologies, so a solid foundation is critical.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • MS/MA in a related technical field is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability in one or more area(s) of advanced computer science and/or statistics: machine learning, data mining, computer vision, distributed computing, advanced data analytics (eg stochastic modeling, simulation), data warehousing, data visualization, automation, or possibly one not even listed here.
  • Comfortable working in both Linux and Windows environments, as well as small scale networking management. Server administration skills a plus. DevOps experience is also a plus. Experience with related technologies: firewalls, IDS/IPS, TCP/IP stack, configuration management, application and network security, modern cloud architecture, virtualization, tools for best practices.
  • Some IT experience is helpful. We’re a really small team and everyone does their share of troubleshooting. IT certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Experience with a modern web application framework, RDBMS and open source projects a plus.
  • A proven track record for finding reliable, innovative technical solutions to real world problems.
  • A relentless desire to serve our businesses and keep them running like they are your own.
