Representative for hospital and nursing administration in dealing with patients, families, visitors, physicians, press and/or community at large on designated shift.

Coordinates the efficient use of personnel, equipment and supplies. Communicates nursing and/or hospital operational problems to the appropriate Administrator. Acts as a resource for the Access Department to facilitate patient placement according to diagnosis and infection control standards. Coordinates morgue activities, including interactions with families, physicians, funeral directors, police, district attorney’s office and coroner’s office to facilitate the identification and timely release of deceased persons from morgue on designated shift. Responds to Code 99 calls, trauma alerts, and other internal emergent situations, coordinates activities, reassigns staff and provides supplemental staff as necessary. Communicates educational needs of nursing personnel on designated shift to appropriate Nurse Manager/Director. Maintains clinical skills and functions as a resource person for nursing department on designated shift. Coordinates hospital activities during internal and external disasters until Administrator on call arrives. Evaluates the need and authorizes overtime, being aware of fiscal constraints. Reviews daily staffing worksheets, monitors and revises as necessary patient assignments based on patient acuity and nursing skill mix. Evaluates and communicates the need for supplemental nursing staff. Provides input for performance evaluations to the Nurse Managers. Intervenes and identifies patient care problems by direct interaction with patient, family, visitor, physician or staff involved and implements appropriate actions. Communicates information to the appropriate Nurse Manager and/or Director. Reinforces the communication of hospital policies, memos and procedures to the designated shift. Collaborates with the Emergency Department, the Director and the Administrator on call concerning the advisability of diverting rescue squads. Responsible for re-evaluation of the Emergency Department status when diverting to provide timely re-establishment of services. Acts as a liaison between Nursing and Ancillary departments to assist with prioritizing/expediting requests and identified needs. Carries out projects and other assignments as required. Attends department and hospital committees as assigned.
