Full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working for 8 hours/day for nine (9) months - academic school year.
Education: Current, active, unrestricted North Dakota Board of Nursing or Compact State Agreement license prior to start date
Qualifications: American Heart Association CPR certified (or obtain in the first 6 months)
Job Goal: This position will work closely with the special education case manager in the multiple impairments classroom to help ensure the medical needs of students are maintained and taken care of in a safe and timely manner during all activities and tasks, as well as during all academic and specialist blocks. Job duties include, but are not limited to: bath rooming/toileting, lifts and transfers, positioning of students, tube feedings, medication administration, seizure care, suctioning, and assisting students with various developmental and/or academic tasks throughout the school day.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work collaboratively and have open communication with the special education case manager on student specific needs in the multiple impairments classroom.
- Work closely with the special education case manager to support and care for students who have medical conditions/diagnosis that require a high level of attention in the multiple impairment classroom.
- Complete any and all training based on students’ specific medical condition/diagnosis in the multiple impairments classroom.
- Under the guidance of the special education case manager, the LPN will assist with parental communication on students’ specific medical needs and cares.
- Communicate consistently and routinely with the case manager, building principal, and district supervisors on the medical needs of students that they are assisting during the school year in the multiple impairments classroom.
- Provide student specific training to UAP’s in the multiple impairments classroom to help assist and care for students on a day-to-day basis.
- All nursing actions will be in accordance with the scope of practice of the North Dakota Board of Nursing and Grand Forks Public Schools policies and procedures.
- Observe Universal Precautions while teaching/showing others to do the same.
- Maintain the rights, dignity, privacy and confidentiality of students in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines.
- Maintain health supplies and documentation for students in the multiple impairments classroom regarding nursing interventions provided.
- Accompany the students in the multiple impairments classroom on field trips or off-campus school-sponsored sports events and activities in order to provide seizure and medical cares.
- Be trained on appropriate and safe lifting techniques for student transfers; including but not limited to: one person transfers, two person transfers, and the use of a hoyer lift.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the district supervisor.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: Stand for long periods of time; repetitive motion; lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. frequently; sit, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently.
Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated by the district supervisor.
