You will be joining the Modeling team at Farasis Energy’s Hayward, CA office. Our mission is to serve our cell and pack engineering teams by providing world class modeling support to push the innovation of our products. Farasis is striving to be a globally leading Tier 1 automotive battery pack supplier, and our modeling team is a critical component to successfully achieving this mission.
We have four core areas of modeling support we provide to our product design teams: 1) Cell level physics-based modeling, 2) System level modeling for system design and BMS algorithm development, 3) Mechanical/Structural modeling at the cell, module, and pack scale, and 4) Thermal/CFD/Electrical modeling at the cell, module, and pack scales. These key capabilities are specifically being developed at Farasis to support new concept development for automotive projects with large OEMs around the world.
You will lead the Thermal/CFD Modeling efforts within our Modeling team. The candidate will work with the modeling team to develop the Thermal Modeling capabilities at Farasis. This will include, but is not limited to, the development of the following capabilities:
The candidate will lead and continue to develop Farasis’ Thermal modeling framework, and therefore must have a superior understanding/experience on thermal/CFD modeling fundamentals and is preferred to have direct experience modeling thermal behavior for Li-ion battery packs. The candidate must be able to strategically plan (i.e., lead) our Thermal modeling development roadmap to efficiently serve our company needs.
ANSYS Fluent is our key thermal/CFD modeling tool and the candidate must be deeply experienced with this tool. Additionally, Solidworks CAD and SpaceClaim experience is important for model geometry manipulation as these are the tools used by our Mechanical engineering team and Modeling team. The candidate must have a strong hands-on background using Fluent and writing automation scripts for pre/post-processing tasks. Our modeling team is lean and it is our vision to operate as efficiently as possible, which necessitates repetitive task automation wherever possible in the simulation process.
You will contribute to design reviews and DFMEAs, and must collaborate tightly with the Mechanical, Hardware, and Cell teams.
You will work closely with the Mechanical engineering team in the concept phase of our product development to guide the design based on thorough Thermal/CFD analysis of the product concepts. Model development timelines for new modules/packs should be between one to four weeks for a new design iteration, to rapidly provide feedback to our design team during the development process. As such, the candidate’s approach to model development must be to optimize model accuracy while balancing the need for rapid feedback response to our design team. It is of the utmost importance for the person in this position to have a mind-set in-line with this vision.
