Paraprofessional
Hudson River Middle School (IS 289) is looking for highly qualified full time paraprofessionals. Applicants must have a Level 1 Certification (or higher).
Paraprofessionals support the academic needs of their assigned students (as per their IEP recommendations). They ensure that students actively participate in group work activities, comprehend classwork assignments and have clear work plans for completing these tasks. Additionally, they ensure that students have the materials they need both for classwork and homework, including a homework planner that is updated daily in each class. Classroom Teachers also direct Paraprofessionals on ways to best support both the student assigned to them, as well as the class in general.

IS 289 is a 300-student District 2 middle school (grades 6-8) in Battery Park City, Manhattan. The school attracts students from all of the elementary schools in District 2 to create a culturally diverse student body. Teachers create rich interdisciplinary curricula that engage students’ interests in, and concern about, the world around them. IS 289’s program encourages students to actively participate in their learning and to work collaboratively with one another. The school is located on the 4th and 5th floors of 201 Warren Street.
IS 289’s classrooms are well-equipped with up-to-date technology; students have easy access to laptops and tablets with which to do on-line research, design iBooks, create iMovies, write blogs, etc. IIS 289 uses a workshop structure for all of its classes; classes are 40 to 90 minutes long and include a mini-lesson, extended work time during which students work on labs and unit projects individually or in collaborative groups, and a final processing meeting.
