JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Instructional Consultant of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) collaborates with faculty, academic programs, and colleges to improve and enhance quality teaching and learning. This position collaborates with campus constituencies in support of the institution’s goal of ensuring student success. The position (1) plans, coordinates, publicizes, and evaluates center activities and initiatives; 2) Consults with faculty, course directors, and appropriate staff to design modules, courses, and curriculum; 3) Consults with faculty on designing, implementing, and evaluating sound teaching strategies; 4) Provides workshops, training, and consultation on pedagogical practices; and 5) Identifies strategies to help faculty to improve teaching. This position provides advanced level direction in instructional innovation and current design theory. This position assists faculty with teaching, working to integrate instructional design principles across various modes of delivery (lecture, seminar, research, clinical, practice, and lab) as well as type of course (face to face, hybrid, online) to support faculty and staff, as well as contribute to improved learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with other members of the TLC to develop and implement TLC activities and initiatives, such as workshops, learning series, learning communities, and other institutional initiatives related to teaching and learning.
Establishes and maintains liaisons with faculty and program directors in order to collaborate and consult in a timely manner on the effective use of instructional design strategies.
Assesses impact of activities and initiatives.
Consults with faculty to identify areas for pedagogical improvement within course curriculum.
Conducts course reviews in order to identify instructional opportunities and analyze areas for improvement.
Provides individual as well as group faculty consultations related to course design, redesign, and development to ensure instructional integrity of course development projects through a method of systematic design and clear course standards and objectives.
Designs, implements, and manages professional development programs to improve faculty and staff curriculum, instruction, and technology knowledge and skills for effective integration of instructional design principles.
Analyzes, prioritizes, and assesses the needs for faculty professional development in the areas of curriculum, instruction, techniques, and technologies for delivering quality courses.
Creates written and electronic resources (website, newsletters, social media, etc.) on quality teaching techniques and technologies.
Researches and evaluates new and emerging curriculum and instruction pedagogies and strategies applicable to an academic health science center.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional design or equivalent. Master’s Degree preferred. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of teaching in higher education to include experience developing and delivering courses, work experience in instructional design and providing consultation or support to higher education faculty and staff, and leading teams supporting faculty with course design and development. Experience in a teaching and learning center (experience in a health science center) is preferred. Experience in curriculum design, designing and implementing online/hybrid courses (teaching in similar environments) is preferred. Extensive knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories. Knowledge of and experience with faculty roles and responsibilities. Demonstrated leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability for strong attention to detail. Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills. Willingness and ability to remain flexible in role and responsibilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with non-technical and technically perceptive users. Strong desire and skills to serve faculty and staff clients. Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff remotely as well as face-to-face. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others in an academic community. Online teaching experience within a higher education environment preferred. Faculty development experience in higher education preferred. Familiarity or experience with health sciences preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally work evenings and weekends, occasional travel.
