The Delaware Research and Technology Center (DRTC) in Newark, DE provides innovation and technical support to Air Liquide’s businesses and markets in the Americas and worldwide.

Air Liquide Research and Development is seeking a Bioprocess Development Research Associate to be located in Newark, DE. The successful candidate will be part of the Life Sciences group and work on bioprocess development in mammalian cells. S/he will contribute to the development and optimization of robust bioprocesses and support technical transfer to customer. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, a “can-do” attitude, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging problems, are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a safety role model; promote a high level of safety awareness and demonstrate continuous improvement in safety practices.
Support technical transfer of R&D projects to customers; Work closely with internal market groups, industry partners or customers.
Provide technical support in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and documenting procedures and results to meet R&D deliverables towards the development and optimization of upstream processes using mammalian cells.
Assist in developing strategy, formulation and support of innovations involving the use of industrial gases in core area of expertise.
Apply engineering principles to design and evaluate technologies.
Advanced scientific degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field
2 or more years of relevant experience in bioprocesses
Strong command of English language, verbal and written
Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with HPLC and other quantitative methods for protein purification and quality assessment.
Theoretical knowledge and experience in statistical experimental design (DOE) and analysis.
Experience with a variety of cell culture and upstream bioprocesses
Excellent attention to detail and ability to keep thorough written records in lab notebooks and batch records
Forward-thinking and able to lead and contribute to scientific/technical discussions
Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems with a strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
Ability to lift 20 lb
Some weekend work required
Position involves ~10% travel, domestic and international
