The Accessibility Specialist II will serve as the primary resource in identifying issues related to accessibility at all CHA properties. The CHA is looking for candidates with experience implementing accessible design, compliant with federal, state and local requirements, in both non-dwelling and dwelling type buildings.

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Proactively work with CHA Property Office to identify actual or potential compliance issues at existing CHA properties.
- Manage the implementation of approved Reasonable Accommodation requests that involve structural modifications to a unit.
- Maintain the CHA’s Accessibility Standards.
- Assist the planning & design team by performing design reviews on all projects to ensure compliance with the United Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS), the Americans with Disabilities Act Guidelines (ADAG), City of Chicago Building Code and all applicable agencies, Acts and guidelines.
- Assist the construction team in the field to ensure implemented work is in compliance.
- Attend meetings with city, state and federal agencies as required and requested.
- Conduct outreach to the accessibility rights community.
- Work with senior CCD leadership to develop and implement training plans for CCD staff.

Bachelor's Degree in architecture with experience implementing accessible design in multi-family housing. The individual must possess excellent communication (written, verbal and interpersonal) and negotiation skills. Effective problem solving skills are needed along with excellent organizational and planning experience. Must be able to meet schedule and budget commitments in a dynamic environment. A working knowledge of federal, state and local housing regulations is preferred. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and work independently. Ability to travel to project sites as needed. Experience with affordable housing and government contracts is preferred.
Proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications.
Architect license in good standing is preferred.
Years of Experience Required:
Minimum of ten (10) of related experience with demonstrated success in mentoring and training other team members as well as implementing program level accessibility policies throughout a public organization.
Salary starting at $90,000 - commensurate with experience
