Laurel Public Library seeks a Library Director who has a minimum of five years’ experience working at a public library with increasing responsibility, a thorough understanding of current library operation and technology, and a commitment to system-wide and community partnerships.
Responsibilities: The Library Director is responsible for managing all day-to-day operations and representing the library in the community. This person will provide leadership and inspiration while evaluating information services, educational activities and collection development. The Director reports to a five-member, court appointed Board of Commissioners and attends monthly meetings as Secretary to the Board.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include: an ALA–accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or a contractual agreement to earn an equivalent degree within two years of commencing employment.
At least three (3) years’ experience of increasing responsibility in a public library, including a departmental supervisory position, is required. Experience working in a Delaware library is a plus.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and presentation skills. This person must be comfortable using innovative library technology to provide face-to-face and virtual services in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate thorough knowledge of current public library practice and theory.
Compensation: Library Director is a Full-Time professional position which requires flexible scheduling for evening and weekend events. Salary dependent on qualifications.
