Summary: Utilizing a broad range of engineering expertise, focused on 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing and Design Transfer to Manufacturing, displays standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design, with minimal guidance. Responsible for the operations & strategy of a 3D Printing Lab. Coordinates the interface between research and development with manufacturing and service for the transfer of electromechanical device products.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
With minimal guidance, ensures continuity of operations, maintenance of machines and timeliness of delivery of parts for a 3D Printing lab. The function is leveraged across Baxter in support of product development, manufacturing, and sales to rapidly evaluate and understand designs.
Leads project team coordination of design transfer of electromechanical device products from research and development to manufacturing and service, including developing the product control specifications and the management of system configurations and bill of materials.
With minimal guidance, schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project. This includes constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with development groups and technical support groups
Devises new approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles.
Supervises and coordinates the work of engineers and/or technicians on assigned work; serves as a mentor / role model for entry-level engineers.
Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding of business objectives and cost implications.
Display advanced understanding of engineering tools and techniques (e.g. CAD and 3D Printing techniques) and their use in product development and manufacturing environments.
Able to clearly and accurately present technical data from multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, etc), ideas and basic engineering concepts to peers and management. Comfortable with developing and delivering presentations within project team environment.
Effectively operates in and facilitates cross-functional teams with some guidance; collaborates with external product development teams and contract manufacturing.
Delivers solutions to assigned problems of moderate to high engineering complexity including thorough documentation and clear communication.
Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
Background & Experience: B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years related experience.
Expertise with the operation and maintenance of plastic additive manufacturing and 3D Printing technologies, including Stereolithography (SLA). Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), and Direct Light Processing (DLP).
Experience in developing user needs, requirements, use cases, architecture, interfaces, product control specifications and system configurations/bill of materials.
Track record of contributing to manufacturing work instructions and build protocols, preventive maintenance procedures and service procedures.
Expertise with multiple computer aided design platforms (Pro-E/Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.) and working knowledge of GD&T methodologies per ASME Y14.5.
Experience with sound problem solving and root cause analysis methodologies (e.g. DMAIC).
Familiarity with medical devices, manufacturing process development, and process validation.
Familiarity with Windchill PDLM, Teamcenter Unified, DOORs, HP ALM, JIRA.
