We are a small, tight-knit startup looking to hiring a mid to senior-level Frontend Engineer in Westwood (near UCLA), Los Angeles. UpKeep is backed by Y Combinator and some of the top VCs in the world. AND we've just been named one of Built in LA's 'Top Places to Work'!

At UpKeep, our goal isn’t to automate the blue-collar worker’s job through AI, machine learning, or big data; it’s to empower maintenance teams to become twice as productive and allow them to receive recognition for the meaningful work they do that is often lost in a paper trail. As a member of our engineering team, you will play a vital part in providing our customers software that is easy to use, guarantees mobility and access, and streamlines communication across teams.

TL;DR: Experienced engineering manager capable of leading by example. Mentor, coach, and train your teams on current best software development practices (software quality, agile process, effective communication, etc.).

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Track record of delivering high quality solutions in fast paced environments

  • Own the execution against the feature roadmap which you help to shape
  • Grow strong engineers through technical and managerial mentorship and coaching
  • Be an advocate for principled engineering and development process
  • Collaborate across the organization to deliver products, features, services, and tools
  • Be scrappy and leverage the team to the fullest
  • Explore and innovate new technologies, features, and tools
  • "Hands-on" development in addition to management. Build and lead great teams to make UpKeep a world-class product.
  • Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across the organization.
  • Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams
  • Provide feedback on functionality requests regarding feasibility and complexity
  • Actively participate in code and design reviews
  • Track record of delivering high quality solutions in fast paced environments
THE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 6+ years of management experience developing scalable web and mobile solutions
  • Experience leading or managing engineers or larger teams.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (Mocha, TestCafe, Selenium, Jest, etc.)
  • Experience with Agile, Lean, Kanban software development process
  • Experience with the AWS ecosystem
  • Expertise with API standards and design patterns
  • Experience with NodeJS, React, React Native as well as Mobile platforms iOS (Objective C, Swift) and Android ( Java, Kotlin)
  • Have strong opinions for which other languages and frameworks could be in our best interest
  • Proven track record of collaborating on a team on large-scale projects
  • You love startups and working in the startup culture
  • BS in Computer science or equivalent preferred
