Job Description :GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Chief Financial Officer, Physician Organization is responsible for the efficient and effective development and operation of the practice management finance functions including budgeting, business plan reviews, patient financial services and decision support activities for the IDN’s including the current PO’s of PLZ, JRMC, SVHS and WPAHS in addition to any other physician organization acquired or developed as part of Highmark’s IDN physician organization. The VP role is to support the President of the Physician Organization and is accountable to the President for these activities. The position has a direct reporting relationship to the IDN’s CFO and a matrixed reporting relationship to the President of the Physician Organization.

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and enforcement of appropriate accounting, budgeting and revenue cycle policies, procedures, and processes and is responsible for ensuring consistency of these functions among the Physician Organization’s practices.

1. Development and implementation of performance improvement plans and plans necessary to achieve goals developed by the IDN Executive Management.

2. Consolidating and coordinating the finance and billing offices (CBO) functions for the various Physician Organization’s practices with the IDN’s VP Revenue Cycle.

3. Coordination of financial planning and accounting information with the IDN’s finance and decision support executives and staff.

4. Coordination of all employee activities to achieve specific goals.

5. Provision of leadership for decision making

6. Access to technology resources as needed.

7. Promotion of fiscal awareness and responsibilities.

8. Other duties as assigned or requested.


Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
At least 8-10 years of progressive multi-specialty practice management and accounting experience.
Experience with major practice management/finance systems conversion.
Experience with responsibility for large group of employees/physicians with different specialties.
Hands-on past experience in accounting and budgeting processes required.
Change management experience; has worked with employees and helped them turn in different directions

MBA or other appropriate advanced degree
Evidence of continuing additional education and coursework desired
Multi-hospital/specialty practice management experience in large complex organizations strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Broad knowledge of accounting principles, technical issues and budgeting.
Strong knowledge of physician practice management accounting including revenue recognition.
Broad knowledge of physician practice financial forecasting, direct expense analysis, and month-end financial reporting.
Sufficient knowledge of the physician practice revenue cycle processes as it relates to patient accounting and revenue enhancement opportunities.
Strong understanding and comprehension of practice financial management and physician contract issues.
Strong knowledge of physician decision support activities.
Human relations skills (one-one leadership; team leadership; leadership within the larger organization with multiple departments and constituencies).
Experience with physician relations and knowledge of practice operations also helpful in achieving success.
