As the Senior Release Manager you will forward plan the release windows and cycles for a complex portfolio of interrelated products, as well as owning scheduling and resource management for First Tech’s preproduction environments. You will have broad experience and deep understanding of waterfall, Agile, and hybrid product delivery processes; software release management; and project management experience in a complex organization.
Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:
Own the software and services release management process at First Tech, going beyond the day to day functional duties to drive process and culture improvements in how we build and ship products
Collaborate with project , Agile development , and infrastructure delivery teams; as well as operations and IT change management to ensure all impactful release activity is identified and potential collisions are mitigated
Lead highly effective release management coordination processes, including time-efficient release status meetings that engage stakeholders and promote healthy release culture
Coordinate the scheduling/use of shared dev/test/staging environments, identifying resource constraints and advocating for process and infrastructure evolution
Conduct Release Readiness , Milestone , and Business Go/No-Go reviews
Design and implement an enterprise-wide release calendar with weekly release reporting
Partner with IT change management to raise awareness of planned releases headed to production, mitigating risks related to coordination, collision, resourcing, etc.
Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and meet or exceed expectations
What are the skills, knowledge and abilities required?
5+ years of previous IT release and/or project management experience in a complex organization (Solid understanding of project management principles preferred)
8+ years of experience working in software development
Knowledge of the technology stack to include infrastructure and applications
Experience with waterfall, Agile, and hybrid product delivery processes and demonstrated flexibility implementing and optimizing the correct option for each situation
Experience with implementing DevOps processes, especially CI/CD and automated testing
Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
Proven leadership and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong collaboration and coaching skills to achieve results through influence and soft power
Strong and broad project management skills
A “sixth sense” for identifying and assessing risks, and communicating same early and effectively
Experience with release management tools such as Plutora
Evidence of curiosity, personal growth, and continuous self-improvement over career
PMP Certification is desirable but not required
