Functions/Duties of Position
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Facilities, and is responsible for all facilities operations, maintenance, and custodial services in OHSU Research and Academic Facilities on Marquam Hill, the South Waterfront, and ancillary locations. This position closely supports the offices of the Senior Vice President of Research and the Provost through the space committee and special projects.
This role supports the institutional mission and vision by providing safe, compliant, reliable, and inviting facilities while being aggressive in fiscal management in a customer-oriented way. Success in this position is critical to maintaining uninterrupted business operations for the University missions, and directly contributes to achieving OHSUs financial and mission goals.
This position manages the facilities support of this space through multiple channels, including direct oversight of maintenance and custodial teams, external trades contractors, internal service partners, and a building management consultant.
Specific duties include strategic relationship management with customers and service partners (Facilities Engineering, Design and Construction, Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Comparative Medicine), operational and capital budget management for preventive and corrective maintenance activities, management of the groups that keep the university facilities running, and communication with research and academic administration. This individual plays a key role in compliance with NIH, State and Local Fire Marshals and other authorities having jurisdiction.
As a senior leader in Campus Services, the Manager of University Facilities is responsible for managing multiple competing priorities in order to best serve the institutional missions of healthcare, education and research, and helping define and exemplify the culture of the department.
Bachelors degree in engineering, management or related field OR
5 additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
10 years of progressive leadership experience with:
Managing operations within a research and academic environment.
Delivery of operations and maintenance services in a unionized team environment.
Contracting services with trades and other unions.
Contracting services with full-service performance contracts such as custodial services or building management services.
Customer service functions.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, analyze situations, solve complex problems and initiate actions
Demonstrated leadership and planning skills
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including extemporaneous and prepared speaking in front of groups
Ability to understand technical concepts relating to building systems and infrastructure
Ability to prepare and administer budgets and develop reports
Ability to negotiate and manage service and construction contracts
Knowledge of operations and maintenance means, methods, codes and regulations
Proficient in software applications, specifically spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database applications
Advanced degree in Business Administration or related field.
Operations and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure in both new and aging facilities.
Facilities management of research facilities, including biosafety and comparative medicine labs.
Planning and directing a preventive maintenance program.
Life cycle costing analysis of infrastructure systems, including capital planning and deferred maintenance programs.
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
Professional Engineering License
Project Management Professional
Certified Facilities Manager or similar professional association
