WE ARE BRIDGES to INDEPENDENT LIVING
Bridges to Independent Living is a transition program of Maple Lake Academy, available for our young men ages 18-23. Bridges offers a focused and individualized program for six young adult men who could benefit from a nurturing environment with a balance of high expectations and high support. This supportive home offers the guidance needed while they explore college, vocational training, employment, community volunteer opportunities and development of leisure skills. A full time Independent Living Coach and 24 hour on-site residential staff. The goal of all our young men is to develop the ability to successfully live independently.
OUR OPPORTUNITY for YOU
We have a great 24-hrs/week opportunity for an Independent Living Specialist, which we call Mentors, on our Monday/Thursday/Friday swing shift (3pm-11pm). We also have a flexible on-call mentor opportunity, which can range from 8-hrs/week up to 40-hrs/week dependent upon shift availability and your desire to pick up shifts. This is a great position if you have a background in psychology, social work, human development, related work, or enjoy helping others become more independent.
As a Mentor in our transition program, you will provide mentorship and guidance to the young men in how to successfully manage their daily independent living. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is a self-starter, is passionate about actively helping others become successfully independent, and can balance being creative, intuitive, patient, follow and enforce program rules, and take pride in the environment they help create with the residents.
To maintain the stability and effectiveness in our program, and because our residents value the relationships they build with their mentors, it is important that our staff are committed to the role they undertake at Bridges. While we do not require a minimum commitment period in the position; we believe it's important that staff are committed to their position for at least a year. Many Mentors at Maple Lake Academy's programs have been contributing their talents for at least 2 or more years, which also provides you a great team of dedicated coworkers!
