Kaleo Missions is a Christian ministry committed to caring for the poor and marginalized communities in the United States. Our organization is driven by the belief that every person is created by God, in His image, and has immense value. Our mission trips include time spent serving, experiencing, and learning. Each of our Kaleo sites is invested in the local community, partnering with trusted ministries and churches, and organizes short-term, high impact mission trips for student groups (middle school – college). We serve in six cities in the US: New York, New Orleans, Portland, San Diego, Jackson and Dallas.
Kaleo Missions is searching for applicants who are passionate about two things: their relationship with Jesus and leading younger students into urban missions. Our team of Summer Interns are crucial for running our summer missions program. Kaleo interns get the unique opportunity to be immersed in an urban culture while leading a team of 10-12 students on a week-long mission trip. The internship position is highly relational with potential for significant impact in the lives of students and the lives of marginalized people groups. This position allows interns to serve and grow in many ways as they lead students, serve in homeless shelters, run summer camps for low-income kids, and care for the poor and marginalized. You can visit our website at KaleoMissions.org or check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kaleomissions for more information about Kaleo Missions.
Each Kaleo site has 4-6 Summer Interns who are led by a City Director. The City Director is deeply invested in their spiritual growth, well-being, and leadership development. Our goal is that Kaleo interns have a defining experience that allows them the opportunity to grow in their gifting and develop ministry skills for a lifetime of serving others in a variety of vocations.
Each applicant has the opportunity to prioritize which of our cities they would like to serve in. Each ministry opportunity is unique, and reflects the culture and needs of the city.
In each Kaleo city, we serve alongside many different types of ministries, however each of our cities reflects their unique needs and culture. To learn more about what ministry looks like in each of our cities, visit our website at www.kaleomissions.org/trip-locations.
Dates: The dates vary depending on the schedule of each of our Kaleo Sites, but generally the summer missions program runs through June and July. There is one week of Staff Training prior to leading mission teams.
Training: Kaleo provides onsite ministry training for each staff team before the summer begins. Training includes sessions on leading small group discussions, exploration of local ministries, city specific training led by local leaders that may include training in refugee ministry, homeless ministry, leading urban kids’ camps, hospitality training, and team building. We also pay for each staff person to receive their Food Handlers License.
Cost: This is an unpaid internship and includes free housing, food, and transportation during work weeks.
Financial Support/Internship Credit: Many of our interns have received internship credit from their school for their ministry with Kaleo. Please contact us to discuss the specific requirements of your school. Also, if you would like to raise financial support from your church/friends/family, we will provide you with the resources you need to do so.
Application Process: We require that each applicant be at least 18 years old, have leadership experience, as well as two references who aren’t relatives. Each applicant will complete an online application, and then a second round of applicants will be invited to an online interview. Our summer staff are required to submit to our Staff Standards and Statement of Faith, available on our website at KaleoMissions.org/summer-intern.
