Consultant – Technology Strategy
Lux Research is seeking an entrepreneurial-minded professional consultant to conduct technical research and provide technology strategy consulting expertise to our clients regarding new and emerging technologies. Areas of practice include energy, environmental and clean technology, advanced materials, digital transformation, and health and life sciences industries.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a technology passionate consultant who may be interested in leaving management or project consulting to return to a more technology innovation consulting role. Join us and contribute immediately to a fast-paced dynamic consulting team; and operate as an integral member and project leader of typically a 3-4 person engagement team. In addition to being a core contributor on client projects, our consultants have opportunities to develop and gain expertise in Lux Research’s tools and methodology, and develop key subject matter expertise. Some travel is required for this position, but it is significantly less than at a “traditional” consulting firm as we typically do not work at the client site.
Consultants play a significant role at Lux, helping to retain and grow existing clients, develop new clients, develop junior team members’ skills and otherwise contribute to the success of the company in a variety of ways.
Minimum of 2 years of previous consulting/client facing experience and experience leading a project and deliverable responsibilities is required.
An undergraduate degree in a physical sciences or engineering discipline is a must. An MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
Candidates with a background in electronics; advanced materials; energy or biotech technologies are highly desirable.
Consultants at Lux Research are expected to be excellent project managers and manage client expectations to deliver high quality deliverables such as tech roadmap and strategic planning; techno-commercial landscape analysis; opportunity assessment; market entry strategies; and partner selection and due diligence.
Specific responsibilities include:
Writing engagement-winning proposals to drive consulting activities.
Function as project manager and sometimes subject matter expert in relevant engagements. Manage client deliverables and interactions for projects across all Lux domain coverage areas and markets.
Work within a team of other Consultants and report to the VP of Consulting to develop and execute project plans and prepare findings for clients.
Conduct primary interviews; developing and executing interviews with senior-level executives at large corporations, technology start-ups, and other organizations.
Conduct secondary research drawing on diverse sources; scientific and technical literature, business and trade press, patent filings, and conference presentations.
Produce presentations and supporting material, including creative visual depictions of data and ideas via MS Powerpoint and MS Excel.
Develop a network of contacts and relationships among business and scientific leaders in emerging technologies and with clientele.
Consultants are expected to take on significant client-facing responsibilities commensurate with experience and growth.
Subject matter expertise, project leadership, pursuing independent research activities, reporting into senior consultants and VP of Consulting, and directing/coaching research associates is an expectation based on existing team composition.
Travel required up to estimated 10-20%.
Experience and skills must also include:
Having an undergraduate or advanced degree in the physical sciences or engineering discipline;
Designing, conducting and leading projects/engagements;
Writing and winning engagement proposals;
Partnering with clients to define project approach and ensure overall project plan will achieve client objectives;
Working closely with client project teams to proactively identify and resolve issues that may adversely impact project;
Ability to communicate progress and deliver results to clients along with negotiation and troubleshooting capabilities to proactively and successfully manage complex engagements;
Ability to work in a fast-paced; deadline driven environment with limited supervision but team-heavy participation;
Ability to write clearly and incisively about business and technical topics;
Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative;
A high degree of organization and attention to detail; and
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects and achieve planned milestones on time and on budget
