SCAD Savannah seeks an associate chair of illustration to ensure students experience the exploration, conceptualization, and creation of illustrated visual assets with traditional and digital media techniques.
In this position, you will develop curriculum and course schedules, teach undergraduate and/or graduate classes, and work with admission to recruit talented students. You will assist the chair in evaluating professors through their service and professional development, contributions to departmental goals, class observations, and student course evaluations. As the associate chair, you will foster inter-departmental collaboration, coordinate the logistics of department events, and work to enhance the reputation of the SCAD illustration department in academic and professional communities. Alongside the department chair, you will provide vision and leadership for the illustration department as well as develop and implement an updated strategic plan for your department consistent with School of Communication Arts and SCAD goals.
The candidate should be able to motivate students and faculty of diverse backgrounds to think creatively and critically.
At SCAD, our illustration students have garnered awards and international recognition from 3X3, Applied Arts Magazine, CMYK, and Berlin’s Red Dot Design Award competitions, among others. Their work has been featured in Rolling Stone, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The New York Times, and has secured partnerships with major brands from Coca-Cola to Lexus and more. This is your chance to work with talented students and colleagues in a vibrant and entrepreneurial environment, located in Savannah’s culturally rich downtown — a setting that provides a dynamic, living laboratory for the study of art and design.
