Job Details and Description

Carpet Installer

Install carpet on floors, laying out rolls or blocks of carpeting and fastening it in place. Also will install padding and trim flooring materials, although you generally won’t be responsible for hardwood. The majority of carpet installers work with wall-to-wall carpeting in residential homes and commercial properties.

Also will use a variety of tools to prepare and place the carpeting. Depending on the type of installation, these can include:

  • Shears for cutting carpet
  • Utility knives and blades
  • Industrial glue guns
  • Heavy-duty staple guns, manual or electric
  • Specific carpet installation tools, including pullers, stretchers, and knee kicker.

Carpet installers handle the entire installation of a carpet. Most jobs begin with an inspection of the installation surface for irregularities to be corrected, and measuring, recording dimensions and making floor diagrams to accurately calculate the amount of carpeting needed.

For the installation itself, you’ll lay out the underlay padding and carpet, and cut and bind pieces precisely to fit, following the floorplan and marked reference points. Seams must be planned and placed carefully to account for foot traffic and appearance. You’ll stretch the carpet over the floor and attach it in place with tack strips, staples, glue or other adhesives, depending on the type of carpet and floor. You may have to nail tack strips in place along the baseboard, or fasten metal treads over doorways and between other types of flooring.

Carpet installers are usually responsible for removing old replaced carpet for disposal or recycling, and for cleaning up the work area before and after the installation. You may be moving furniture, sweeping, vacuuming and collecting all tools and equipment before departure.

You’ll also use computer software or mobile phone to schedule, track and manage job projects. It is very important to check all the time. Mainly deal with Google Calendar.

We have company vehicles that you will be using and rules and regulations will be explained during interview. Must have valid driver license.
