This is a PART-TIME, TEMPORARY/HOURLY position. It begins Upon Hire and is expected to run through September of 2019.

Our UW Tacoma campus has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary, Part-Time Utility Worker 2. This individual, under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, facilities, utility and sewer systems, equipment, and grounds as part of a work crew or as an assistant to a journey level worker. This position will be supporting projects to refresh classrooms and office spaces, rear waterproofing, in addition to providing support to trades staff and Court 17.

Typical Work:
Performs semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, window maintenance, fixtures, equipment, grounds, walkways, streets, and driveways; such as repairing and installing sanitary storm drains, irrigation systems, and sewers; building and repairing parking lots and sidewalks; cleaning roofs and gutters; maintaining tunnel passages, sumps, and utility access holes;

Cleans, services, adjusts, and makes repairs on tools and equipment; Operates power tools and equipment, such as electric and gas engine driven compressors, large mowers, aerators, herbicide/pesticide sprayers, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer, snow plows and portable pumps;

Operates motorized equipment such as automobiles, trucks, including dump trucks, forklifts, trailers, small tractors and front-end loaders;

Loads and unloads trucks and move furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; assembles new furniture;

Assists heavy equipment operators in activities such as removing material from job site or digging ditches to place pipes;

Does layout and job planning on routine maintenance or construction projects; reads and interprets on-line drawings;

Sets up for events and returns venue to original condition;

Performs other duties as required.

Physical strength to do required work AND two years of experience as a Utility Worker I OR equivalent education/experience.

Ability to: read and write; understand and carry out instructions; perform heavy manual labor and work outside in all types of weather. Basic computers skills.
