Full Job Description
The Soldiers' Home in Chelsea is seeking an experienced candidate to serve as the 2nd Class Engineer for the Boiler Plant. The incumbent will operate, maintain, repair, monitor and control boilers, turbine, and auxiliary plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient and continuous plant operation. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to maintain a safe and efficient boiler operation including maintaining productive boiler combustion, maximize generation and operates facility within all applicable permits and safety codes.

Please Note: The shift schedule for this position will from 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM with Wednesday and Thursday off

Emergency: This position has been deemed as an Emergency personnel position. During a declared State of Emergency and in Non-Emergency situations/adverse weather, it will be necessary to report to work.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive):
Monitor boiler plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems
Inspect and control various types of machinery, equipment, control panels and systems (electricity generating equipment, fuel and fluid handling equipment, and auxiliary machinery)
Record and compile operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports
Respond to emergencies or equipment breakdowns and call in necessary personnel during power outages and emergencies
Cleans and maintains work areas and plant machinery and equipment, such as suction and discharge oil strainers, burners, boilers and pumps
Comply with all state regulations regarding boiler/turbine operation and all state records and logs completed and maintained appropriately
Prepare equipment malfunction reports, make inspections and from observation, determine whether the equipment is operating properly
Assist management and other team members on the daily operation, monitoring and maintenance of plant equipment

Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of operation of industrial-type heating systems, pneumatics, direct digital control (DDC) as applied to heating, ventilating and building management systems.
Familiarity with calibration and/or adjustment techniques as applied to analog, digital and pneumatic control systems.
Awareness of the types and uses of precision measuring equipment used in a power plant such as manometers, voltmeters, anemometers, tachometers, etc.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, drawings, technical manuals, etc.
Possession of a Second Class or higher Stationary Engineers license, based on the standards established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws, is required.
