Managing Director, Institutional

Position Summary:

The Managing Director is responsible for managing all aspects of institutional client relationships, and for seeking new business relationships. IRA Group’s institutional client base is comprised of corporate and government/non-profit defined contribution, defined benefit and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. Managing Directors have extensive retirement plan expertise and investment knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage relationships with institutional clients through quarterly Committee meetings, management of ad hoc projects and other relationship building activities
  • Lead and participate in efforts to acquire new client relationships
  • Meet with clients quarterly to conduct investment and plan reviews, and assist with plan governance activities
  • Lead ad hoc projects for clients, including RFPs, analysis of plan provisions and design, and researching regulatory questions
  • Work with clients and recordkeepers to assess, design and deliver participant communication/education programs. Conduct group and individual employee meetings
  • Oversee recordkeepers to ensure satisfactory client service levels. Negotiate fees and services on behalf of clients.
  • Member of IRA Group Investment Committee; participate in decision-making regarding investment options to be utilized.
  • Lead & participate in due diligence meetings with investment companies
  • Review and ensure quality of all reports to be presented to clients

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of retirement plans
  • Strong knowledge of investments
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully lead meetings with members of client’s C-suite
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Literate in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Adobe applications


  • At least bachelor’s Degree
  • At least ten years of experience in financial services, preferably working with retirement plans
  • Prefer current NASAA Series 65 certification
