Successful candidate will develop and lead complimentary research program in sugarcane process engineering with direct application to the sugar processing industry. Research project areas are expected to include either (a) chemical or (b) mechanical process system components of sugar process engineering than enhance the Louisiana industry. Program activities may include problem areas in sugar factory operation and efficiency, improvements to factory equipment, by-product utilization, heat and mass transfer balances, or other areas related to sugar engineering. Successful candidate must be innovative in research approaches and willing to participate in an interdisciplinary environment. They must develop strong rapport with all sectors of Louisiana’s sugar industry.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in chemical or mechanical engineering. A minimum of five (5) years experience in sugar processing is desired. Alternatively, for the mechanical engineering position a BSc/MSc in mechanical engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years practical experience in sugar processing may be accepted but the academic rank would be Instructor. Excellent communication and writing skills, experience with project planning and execution, and budget management skills are required. Ability to conduct short courses/seminars and grant writing experience is required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. The LSU Agricultural Center (AgCenter) is seeking candidates for two faculty positions.
One or both will be filled depending on the applicant pool.
WORK LOCATION: Audubon Sugar Institute, LSU Agricultural Center, St. Gabriel, Louisiana.
NATURE OF POSITION: Tenure track, 10 month fiscal year, academic rank of Assistant/Associate/Professor or Instructor. Successful candidate will develop a mission-oriented research program that supports the sugarcane processing industry in Louisiana. Partial summer salary support may be available through The American Sugar Cane League if project is sponsored. Appointment will be 50% Research, 50% Extension.
