We are seeking a Senior Security Specialist - Splunk Administrator to support our Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client in New Carrollton MD.
The candidate will provide administer, maintain, operate and support the Splunk Enterprise and customers through the life cycle processes and the creation of artifacts associated with systems development, operations and environment as well as the documentation of system configuration and interface controls between systems. The resource will serve as a liaison between Cybersecurity, Unified Network Services, Applications Development, and Enterprise Operations to ensure appropriate patching, administration and system monitoring are performed to manage and address detected threats.
The Senior Security Specialist - Splunk Administrator will have the following responsibilities:
Operate and Maintain infrastructure and Splunk application monitoring tool as part of the IRS Cybersecurity, network, and application audit and monitoring program
Support extremely complex computer network security/protection technologies for IRS information and network systems/applications
Collaborate with the Splunk Architects to ensure the proposed design is feasible, efficient, effective, and saleable.
Implement the Splunk architectural design as provided.
Administer the Splunk application infrastructure, including implementing the access control, data segmentation, and general Splunk infrastructure
Document the implementation and configuration changes
Perform standard system maintenance (including patch implementation) as required to maintain the Splunk infrastructure
Follow all IRS policies and procedures for the implementation and operation of IT resources in accordance with the IRM and contractual requirements.
May mentor to less experienced staff
Work alone and with teams comprised of the primary client and other client stakeholders dispersed across geographical sites
Review and provide feedback on Unified Work Requests (UWRs)
Provide status reports and attend meetings
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required, an additional four (4) years of related work experience can substitute for a degree
At least eight (8) years of experience in security applications and systems related audit and accountability
Experience with Splunk Enterprise
Experience with reviewing, analyzing and coordinating requirements for ingesting auditable and actionable events into Splunk
Proven ability to work on and with teams comprised of the primary client and other client stakeholders dispersed across geographical sites
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred experience: Splunk infrastructure, searches, dashboards, reports and alerts; Splunk data ingestion methods such as DB connect, REST API, and log files; SQL queries; Infrastructure and application monitoring; Experience with and/or knowledge of IRS IRMs; Experience with reviewing/analyzing UWR requirements; Experience with IRS systems, such as eAuth, ACA applications, CADE2, GMF, ERS, IMF Document Specific, BMF Document Specific, IDRS, AIMS, etc.
Additional Requirements as per contract/client:
Candidates must meet requirements to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) clearance (active IRS Moderate Risk MBI clearance is a plus).
Candidates must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years, and be Federal Tax compliant.
