The Measurement, Data Analytics & Products (MDAP) team is a dynamic team of researchers and data enthusiasts passionate about creating insights which further CES’ objectives.

Position Summary
The Customer Programs Measurement and Evaluation (CPM&E) team is a sub-team within MDAP dedicated to understanding whether our customer programs are performing effectively. We inform program planning and design, support implementation, and provide insights to improve customer program offerings, which help customers to manage their energy bills and improve customer satisfaction. Our work factors into energy procurement decision making that impact buying decisions, energy supply choices, and ultimately transmission and distribution service reliability and price.

CPM&E supports a new, rapidly evolving approach to estimating energy savings from energy efficiency programs. This approach, known as the meter-based platform (or normalized metered energy consumption), draws on statistical analysis rather than traditional engineering methods, and will require business units within PG&E to work together in new ways. The CPM&E summer intern’s main project will focus on documenting and codifying the business processes we are developing to support the meter-based platform—a crucial task to ensure that energy efficiency projects that use this approach are executed in an efficient and uniform way. This will involve:
Interviewing stakeholders who play a role in the meter-based platform and documenting their roles
Mapping business processes
Identifying gaps and areas where efficiency could be improved
Creating a comprehensive protocols document and/or compliance manual
Developing training materials for third-party program implementers, which will be shared on an external implementer-facing website

As a member of the meter-based platform and broader CPM&E team, the intern may also assist with data request fulfillment, analysis and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and participate in conversations with third-party evaluators, program implementers, and other stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications:
Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a business, engineering, social science, information science, public policy or related majors (students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship).

3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
Coursework in science or social science; familiarity with the scientific method and a desire to understand how things work and how they can be improved
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Some experience analyzing quantitative data; experience programming in SQL, R, Stata, SAS, SPSS, Python, or using advanced Excel is a plus
Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
