Leads the Purchasing team, including Category Managers and Regional Buyers, for a purchasing Department (e.g. Supplements, Body Care). Responsible for formulating Department strategies and tactics that reinforce the Whole Food’s Market brand, align with Department role and financial expectations, and drive market performance. Takes the lead role in developing an e-commerce strategy across Whole Body categories. Accountable for the financial performance of assigned Department and initiatives. Partners with internal teams (e.g. Marketing, Exclusive Brands) to set Department priorities. Serves as primary business partner to bring strategy to life. Identifies strategic opportunities to differentiate the Department’s offering across multiple channels. Responsible for building and nurturing key supplier partnerships to drive competitive advantage and deliver financial performance. Builds and manages Team Members and creates a strong team culture. Supports and positively influences Grocery Team financial goals, product mix, business relationships, innovation needs, and team culture.
- Formulates Department strategies and tactics that reinforce the Whole Food’s Market brand, align with Department role and financial expectations, and drive market performance.
- Develops Whole Body e-commerce strategy and works with key stakeholders on implementation.
- Translates Department financial objectives to Category goals across multiple channels.
Monitors Department financial performance. Leads team to adjust based on performance and escalates performance issues and opportunities to leadership as needed.
Coaches Team Members on category strategies, assortment and promotional plans.
Allocates Department resources (space, inventory, promotions, etc.) to the categories.
Partners with Marketing to set Department promotional and marketing priorities.
Partners with the Exclusive Brands team to set Department-owned brand priorities.
Leads key supplier partnerships, including strategy development/differentiation, financial performance and operational excellence.
Establishes Department pricing objectives based on overall company/grocery pricing strategy.
Leads purchasing team, including annual evaluations, performance management and on-going coaching.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and passion for merchandising strategy, planning and execution.
Experience in e-commerce sales or marketing.
Strong financial management acumen.

Excellent communication including written, verbal and listening skills.
Education/Experience and Training:
4 year degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 8 years category management/buying experience and/or food industry brand development equivalent.
Minimum 4 years supervisory/team leadership experience.
