Welding Department Manager:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Interview candidates for employment and make hiring decisions according to accepted Company policy.
Orients new employees concerning policies and procedures, work rules, and individual position responsibilities and performance expectation levels.
Evaluates and documents the performance of subordinates. Reviews the performance of direct reports.
Recommends and performs personnel actions such as promotions, performance awards, demotions, layoffs, disciplinary actions leading up to and including termination, etc. according to Company policy.
Maintains an environment that motivates workers to achieve company goals.
Analyzes and resolves work related problems.
This is not a working position and requires competency in the activities performed by the workers supervised.
Monitors the capacity of their area and recommends adjustments in headcount to ensure “on-time” deliveries with the minimum amount of people and overtime.
Responsible for creating and maintaining a “Can Do” culture in support of the goals of the company.
Coordinates and communicates with the appropriate individual any changes required in tooling or jobs that will improve departmental productivity and/or quality.
Ensures the efficient, accurate and timely flow of paperwork of job travelers and inventory move tickets through their area.
Works closely with other floor supervisors to efficiently coordinate intradepartmental activities.
Maintains accurate time and production records.
Make layouts and set up machines, equipment or tooling as required.
Responsible for monitoring and controlling production costs through the assignment of personnel.
Responsible for the control of product quality, which includes inspection of work in-process and finished products under the guidance of the Quality Assurance Department.
Maintains times and accuracy of jobs in shop clock for all their team members, ensure data is being reported correctly
Reports machinery problems in a timely manner to the Maintenance Department.
Ensures machinery is both used and maintained in a safe manner per governmental regulations and Springs Fabrication policies.
Responsible at times for plant start-up, shutdown and security
Will be responsible for the safety of the employees under his/her direction as outlined in the Company Safety Manual and Hazardous Materials (as applicable), which includes but not limited to, training and monitoring workers in safe manufacturing and equipment operation practices.
Attend required training classes and other seminars.
Report all accidents as required by federal regulations and Springs Fabrication policy.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university with an emphasis on welding, or three to five years related experience accompanied with a technical degree in a related field.
Five or more years of broad technical experience in a job shop or metal fabrication environment where welding was a primary function.
Five or more years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
Must be able to read blueprints (Engineering Drawings) & have basic knowledge/understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions.
Understands fully Springs Fabrication’s Policy Statement, commitment to ISO and Safety.
Knowledge of various equipment, to include CNC machine tools (mills and lathes), plasma tables, plate laser and/or other manufacturing equipment
Experience with various welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW)
Excellent leadership, team building and oral/written communication skills
Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and knowledge of utilizing an ERP system is preferable
