General Summary:
Grade 9: Under the direction of the supervisor, Systems Networking and Storage, support the network infrastructure monitoring standards, processes and procedures to insure consistent network and business application performance.

Grade 10: Under the direction of the supervisor, Systems Networking and Storage, develop and maintain the network infrastructure monitoring standards, processes and procedures to insure consistent network and business application performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Grade 9

Implement and maintain the network performance management (NPM) infrastructure used for network and application performance monitoring.
Support the requests of the ITS business and infrastructure teams for performance baselines, relevant alerts and system related reports.
Evaluate and validate NPM data collections and methods for accuracy and relevance for key infrastructure and business applications.
Maintain the network performance reports library for historical analysis and reference.
Assist in resolving network hardware and software problems and satisfy requests through conferring with BSA’s, co-workers, and vendors applying commonly used concepts, practices and procedures.
Assist in administering network protocols such as, but not limited to, DNS, DHCP, VOIP, VLANs, 802.1X and RADIUS.
Assist in administering network services such as firewalls, DLP, load balancers (BigIP), switches, routers, PBX, LAN/WAN, FTP and mail gateways.
Contribute to the development of team standards.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies and taking advantage of self-learning opportunities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Grade 10

Evaluate, design, recommend, implement and maintain the network performance monitoring (NPM) infrastructure used for network and application performance monitoring.
Integrate the NPM data with other infrastructure systems such as ServiceNow or SolarWinds.
Develop and maintain network performance reports for the CIO and ITS Managers.
Resolve network hardware and software problems and satisfy requests through conferring with BSA’s, co-workers, and vendors applying commonly used concepts, practices and procedures.
Install, configure and administer network services and protocols such as, but not limited to, DNS, DHCP, VOIP, VLANs, 802.1X, iSCSI and RADIUS.
Install, configure and administer network services such as firewalls, DLP, load balancers (BigIP), switches, routers, PBX, LAN/WAN, FTP and mail gateways.
Monitor the network and take corrective action as needed to insure reliability, security and performance.
Prepare proposals and assist in project planning and execution as directed by the team lead or supervisor.
Analyze system performance and recommend enhancements.
Provide reports to management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing network information.
Research and recommend technologies, products and techniques that facilitate network monitoring and network administration.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies and taking advantage of self-learning opportunities.

Required Skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Grade 9

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one years relevant experience preferred. College level coursework and three years experience in network technology may substitute for degree.
One to three years of experience using infrastructure performance and monitoring tools such as ExtraHop, Gigamon, Riverbed or SolarWinds required. ExtraHop experience preferred.
General knowledge of networking protocols and technologies required.
General knowledge of knowledge of network security required.
General knowledge of scripting to automate and document processes and procedures.
General knowledge of industry standard networking hardware, Cisco and F5 preferred.
General knowledge of UNIX and Microsoft Windows operating system preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work in a team setting and the ability to develop and mentor less knowledgeable associates.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong documentation skills with ability to convey complex designs in an easily understandable format.
Ability to convey diagnostic techniques for perceived network issues to all ITS teams.
Ability to deal with customers in high pressure situations throughout the organization and with outside vendors.
Ability to function under close deadlines with minimal supervision.
Considerable standing, walking, bending and lifting required.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
Excellent work record of attendance and punctuality; occasional evening, weekend and non-regular work hours may be required.
