About the role:
In this role you will be responsible for nearly all areas relating to financial accounting, reporting and compliance. You will develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. You will be part of a small team giving you the opportunity to work on a large number of accounting areas and coordinate the work of Napster's outsourced accounting function. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including complex accounting topics, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation. This role is located in Seattle and reports to the Controller, working directly with various levels within Rhapsody/Napster, including accountants in Europe, India, Japan and Brazil, external auditors, legal counsel, purchasing, and FP&A.
Maintain and evolve the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures and systems in conjunction with senior management to ensure adequate internal controls and compliance with GAAP and IRS regulations.
Analyze accounting transactions, prepare journal entries, and reconcile general ledger accounts for the US, EU,Brazil and Japan entities.
Review and analyze revenue, royalty, debt, lease and vendor contracts for proper accounting treatment and prepare technical memos for review by the Controller and CFO.
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close process.
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Champion year-end audit engagement with independent auditors.
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
Collaborate with leaders and colleagues across the Company regarding non-standard accounting transactions.
You are an experienced staff accountant or recent graduate with internship experience who has developed basic to strong accounting skills. You have knowledge of or ability to learn revenue recognition for both music subscriptions and platform-as a service (PaaS),and royalties on licensed content. You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels within the organization and with key service providers, including auditors, tax advisors, stock administrators, and outsource accounting services. You manage up to drive projects to completion, you are proactive and can handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast- paced, ever-changing environment.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Audit or related field is required
Public accounting experience, CPA and/or MBA is preferred
Minimum one year of work or internship experience in a similar accounting or finance position
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting system, Jet Reports or other general ledger and report-writers are a plus.
Customer service orientation: Ability to provide world-class service to multiple stakeholders
Demonstrable quality improvement skills with attention to creation of processes and controls in order to achieve timely and accurate results
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
