Job Requirements:
We offer a comprehensive 160+ hour CVTA recommended training curriculum built to provide you with what you need to prepare yourself for your Class A CDL, and a career as an over the road driver or local driver.

We offer:
Small classes. Four students per class – Classes start every three weeks
Visual and auditory training in the classroom as well as hands on and oral discussion
One on one behind the wheel with instructor (4-hour blocks).
In-House Financial assistance if qualified.
Salt Lake Driving Academy is approved as a training provider by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
Also, we are proud to be an approved school for FedEx Ground.

Employment Options:
Work for an employer of YOUR choice either Over the Road or Local. Inquire with us for possible placement options.
Work for our parent company, the Salt Lake Trucking Group in our FedEx Ground Division. Based on meeting qualifications for our FedEx Ground Division.
What do you need to do to start the process?

Complete the background check (paid by SLDA) as well as provide us with your MVR(s). This must be done for any state you have held a license in for the last three (3) years. You can obtain your Utah MVR in person from the DMV for $6.00. Many states have an option to order MVR’s online.

Dollar amounts vary state to state.

Cost of Training:
Tuition is $4000 with additional out of pocket fees. This is payable by way of cash payment, Department of Workforce Service Funding, LDS Family Services (Deseret Industries), bank or Credit Union loans (ask for rates), or the Square Finance option (must qualify). Should you choose to use Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover Card a 3.53% fee will be added.
In order to secure a place in class you will need to provide either full payment, or a $500.00 deposit.

Fees you are responsible for:
You must obtain a DOT medical card. (This is required before you take the written test at the Driver License Division). It’s best to go to an occupational health clinic such as one of Intermountain Health’s WorkMed Clinics or Rocky Mountain Care Clinic. We have an agreement with Rocky Mountain Care Clinic at 4088 W 1820 S, SLC, UT 84104.

You can use any clinic you choose. To find a doctor on the National registry go to: The cost of the DOT Physical is $55.00-$200.00 depending on where you go.
You will be required to perform a DOT Pre-employment 9 panel drug screen on your first day in class. This will need to be done at the time of registration to ensure compliance and qualification. You will be provided a document for this test. This fee is $39.00
CDL Permit will cost $52 with additional cost of $9.00 for the doubles / triples endorsement. Any additional endorsements you wish to obtain will cost $9.00 each.
When you complete your 160-hour training you will be required to do a Utah State Third Party test. We are contracted with a tester to do this at a discounted rate of $150.00.

Job Description:Qualifications for Training and Employment:
No Felonies last 10 years – Required by “most” employers. We will review your background with you to determine employment eligibility. Felonies reviewed case by case. Please inquire.
No DUI, DWI, or Possession charges last 5 years
No more than one moving violation in last year and no more than two in last three years.
Must be able to pass a DOT Drug Test
Must be licensed for one year in the US with a valid license.
