Full Job Description
Provides direct supervision for the operation of the Emergency Department (ED). Accepts departmental responsibilities in the absence of ED Manager. Assists with duties as the Employee Health Nurse. Attends and gives input in departmental meetings. Assists with completion of staff evaluations. Helps with scheduling of nursing staff for open shifts in the ED. Demonstrates effective job initiative, and helps with departmental planning. Helps design ED physician and nursing CQI functions. Maintains and enforces established policies and procedures. Active role in community education. Identifies health and safety concerns and unsafe work practices within the workplace. Is involved in developing safe work practices and is held accountable for the day to day efforts of ensuring a safe workplace by following safe work practices.
Achieves the mission and objectives of the hospital in accordance with approved policies and procedures by ensuring appropriate planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all activities of the department. Oversees and develops policies and procedures for the efficient functioning of hospital operations.
Oversees Employee Health concerns and recommends corrective action, completes statistics and prepares Employee Health reports in absence of the ED Manager.
Assess and develops staff in-services according to identified needs. Attends meetings, workshops, reads journals, etc. to further develop professional and management skills. Implements orientation for new staff members.
Identifies problems and creates solutions for operational and clinical issues both interdepartmentally and hospital wide. Maintains collegial relationships with other departments and physicians; accepts and responds to constructive criticism. Supports administration and medical staff.
Represent ERMC in hospital and community events to promote the image of the hospital, and makes the hospital a better place in which to work. Suggests and assists in the development of new/or expanded services to better serve our communities.
Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. works in department as necessary to provide direct patient care.
Participates in CQI activities; Chart reviews, satisfaction forms, patient call backs and checking appropriate changes.
Assists the ED Manager in decisions related to hiring of new employees, and disciplinary activities. These duties may be delegated to the Supervisor during the prolonged absence of the ED Manager.
Knowledge of Meditech and other programs as needed.
Licensed nurse in the State of Michigan. Must have BCLS and ACLS certification. PALS, TNCC, ENPC preferred. Minimum of two (2) years Emergency Department clinical experience. Leadership experience as a nurse manager, assistant nurse manager or charge nurse preferred.
