Primary job location is at the General Services Headquarters in Forest Park, GA. Candidate will be provided with an assigned company vehicle outfitted to perform field meter work.


This position reports to the Metering Services Engineering Manager and is primarily responsible for bulk power grid and transmission system metering key financial control activities (meter testing, site audits, and witness tests) to support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. This includes interchange metering, intra-tie metering, Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) load metering, substation metering, and generation/IPP metering.

As some of this field work scheduling is seasonal, the candidate will also work at the Forest Park location on engineering projects. These projects may include design and development, product testing, quality assurance or special projects.

Candidate must be willing to travel to various field sites in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina.


Must develop relationships, communicate and work well with personnel from various departments and across all levels to be affective in this position.
Identify, organize and track testing needs for each year
Maintain documentation files and records for all meter testing to support quarterly reporting of key financial controls for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
Perform field installation, maintenance and testing of meters/meter systems including electronic meters, instrument transformers, data communications interfaces including Ethernet LAN/WAN or wireless radio on bulk power system sites from 46kV to 500kV level
Meter data analysis and verification including pulse data, SCADA, Energy Logs and MV90
Coordinate testing and witness activities with various other utilities and other Southern Company organizations
Work closely with Bulk Power Operations Data Integrity team

Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical or industrial) from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred.
In lieu of technical degree, candidate may qualify with a minimum of five (5) year of specific electric metering experience including meter programming, calibration/testing, application of instrument transformers and intimate knowledge of electric metering products.

Preferred Experience Requirements:
Prior experience working with electric utility high-end metering including meter calibration/testing and substation equipment.
Experience with high-end meters such as Schneider ION 8300/8500/8600, Landis Gyr Quad/2510/Elite, JEMSTAR, Quantum, Transdata, etc.
Experience with electric utility system components such as revenue meters, SCADA/RTU, transducers, instrument transformers, generating plant systems, substation systems, RS-232/RS-485/DNP3/IP communications
Able to demonstrate excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
Ability to develop and analyze drawings, blueprints, one-lines, schematics, specifications, proposals, and other project documentation.

Knowledge of transmission substation operations, protection/control/metering systems
Good troubleshooting skills
An ability to analyze and solve problems to make sound and timely engineering decisions, based on experience and appropriate industry practices
Must be able to perform accurate engineering calculations of power system quantities and metering values
Ability to schedule and prioritize work
Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks over a large territory
Ability to resolve conflict and proven negotiation skills
Effective written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
