The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Education Program Director III (Working Title: Director) for our K-12 Standards, Curriculum and Instruction section. The primary purpose of this section is to improve student achievement by utilizing various tools to produce students capable of identifying problems, analyzing data and drawing conclusions. These tools include mathematics, science, social studies, communication skills, second language, healthful living, the arts, counseling and health services. Content consultants employ a more holistic, complex approach to educating students capable of forming appropriate attitudes, performing essential skills and manipulating a complex body of information necessary to be responsible citizens.
The Director of K-12 Standards, Curriculum and Instruction is charged with providing leadership, supervision, and administration regarding the revision of all content areas (K-12 English Arts, K-12 STEM, K-12 Social Studies, K-12 programs such as Arts, English as a Second Language and Guidance, Healthy Schools, and Global Education) within the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and alignment of content standards with K-12 state accountability programs. This role is responsible for the development of a shared vision for the section (aligned with State Board of Education goals), establishing the goal setting process which flows from the vision, assisting the Division in carrying out goals, and evaluating results. Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION THAT CLEARLY REFLECTS WORK EXPERIENCE DEMONSTRATING THE FOLLOWING:
Extensive knowledge of standards, curriculum and instruction, administration and supervision
Experience in the disciplines, programs and content areas this position supervises
General knowledge of K-12 school curriculum, other disciplines, and overall operations and challenges of schools, to include not only more traditional academic curricula and programs, but alternative and innovative curricula, programs and mandates that holistically and systematically address the needs of students and educators
Knowledge of and experience implementing curriculum design and development
Experience interacting effectively with various individuals and groups who often hold differing positions and opinions
Experience delegating complex professional assignments to subordinates and evaluating work
Ability to utilize effective written and verbal communication to variety of audiences
Sound judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
Several years of teaching experience and five years of successful administrative or supervisory experience are desired to be able to provide leadership in designing curriculum and instructional strategies for K-12 students and leading multiple sections within curriculum and instruction.
Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in education or the special education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution, and six years of experience in public education, including a minimum of four years in an administrative capacity; or Doctoral degree in education or the special education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution, and four years of experience in public education including three years in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
