The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan has an exciting opening for Junior Art Director to join the association's innovative marketing and communications team.
The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) is an organization that nurtures lifelong relationships with and among current and future Michigan alumni and the University. As a committed partner and supporter of the University, the Association offers programs of relevance and service to alumni. Through partnerships with UM units, schools, and colleges, the Association is looking to expand the reach to Michigan alumni across the world to provide relevant programs that enable alumni connections and alumni success. Assist in developing and executing conceptual, creative ideas through design and imagery that are on-brand, strategically sound, and market-driven.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with Writer partner and the creative team to assist in conceptualize creative executions.
Produce a portfolio of high-end visual creative assets that can be used in various channels including print, video, display, direct mail, email, newsletters, magazine content, social media, website, and presentations.
Take initiative and contribute enthusiastically to the creative process.
Demonstrate attention to detail with an eye for clean, simple, clear communications.
Assess new technologies, standards and trends, and assist in strategy formulation for the most effective message delivery.
Make an ongoing commitment to improving art direction skills and staying informed of innovative trends.
Must assist in “owning” a project; put your “all” into it and be responsible for understanding its purpose and executing it within the agreed upon parameters.
Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Support Alumni Association and marketing team vision.
Work collaboratively with those outside of the Marketing & Communications Department
Share knowledge through internal communications.
Remain current with respect to technology, trends and what other alumni associations are doing.
Participate on Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committee's and other volunteers.
Attend appropriate team and staff meetings.
Staff team and Alumni Association events.
Represent Alumni Association at University and alumni functions.
Direct supervision is received from the Art Director Supervisor.
May coordinate the work of some freelance staff.
Bachelor's degree in Art & Design, Interactive Communications, or Mass Communications with major in graphic design, communication design, new media design or relevant field.
Experience with print and digital design and illustration.
Knowledge of graphic design principles and practices: layout, typography, and use of tone and color, with knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Design (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Production (After Effects, Soundbooth) and Apple Motion/Final Cut Pro.
Demonstrated interest in learning new technologies and approaches to projects.
Experience with organizing and maintaining media assets and versions effectively and efficiently.
Strong ability to think creatively, visualizing a story and producing engaging creative assets.
Work collaboratively with a Writer partner, and with others to transform strategies and topics into engaging creative.
Demonstrate ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize the work at hand to meet deadlines.

Able to carry over learnings from one project to another
NOTE: This position may require some evening and weekend work.
NOTE: This position is a one-year, term limited position.
