HR, Benefits Director (27801) -Erlanger Baroness Hospital
Regular - Exempt - Full-time - Standard Hours 37.5
The Benefits Director is responsible for the development and administration of all Erlanger Health System benefit programs including but not limited to retirement programs, salary continuance, group insurance and related programs in all company operations. As needed provides special guidance and assistance to all locations on various employee benefit plans. Surveys industry and/or community to determine the organization's competitive position in employee benefits. Develops recommends and installs approved, new or modified plans and employee benefit policies, and supervises the administration of existing plans. A key responsibility is to ensure and design programs meeting budgetary parameters providing a market competitive position as well as delivering high service levels. He/she will develop cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to the organization and employee. The incumbent will research, analyze and make recommendation regarding emerging benefits practices. He/she will ensure compliance with all federal, state and regulatory standards & laws governing the benefit programs. The Benefits Director will work in partnership with leadership, management, staff and external vendors to ensure programs are aligned with EHS's total rewards philosophy and strategic initiatives. The Benefits Director will provide supervision and evaluation of staff including directing operational activities. He/she will coach and mentor staff to help develop the skills necessary to execute effective and efficient processes.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a related field. De-escalation Training if Applicable
Master's Degree; Benefits/Human Resources Certification
Minimum 5+ years of management experience in benefits.
Demonstrated experience in overseeing benefit programs from plan design and implementation to the ongoing maintenance of plans.
Strong analytical skills with financial data.
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in effectively managing vendor relations.
Negotiation skills (facilitating people, events and process); negotiates all benefit vendor contracts ensuring the best benefit package at the most competitive cost.
Manages PTO and STD Bank and the policies and procedures associated with both banks.
Manages the wellness program and all initiatives.
Manages and administers the 403(b), 401(a), 457(b), 457(f), Roth and DBP plans.
Handles all vendor transitions.
Manages 1095-C and 1094-C ACA Reporting.
Prepares and executes with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the organization to effect changes in benefit programs. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.
Ongoing hours and eligibility monitoring associated with ACA benefits compliance (Must do a look back every 12 months to determine if any employees have consistently worked 30 hours per week over the look back period to determine medical benefits eligibility.); or develop a medical benefit plan that keeps the organization compliant without having to track hours.
Collaborates with Erlanger Pharmacy on 340(b) initiatives working to reduce pharmacy spend including but not limited to negotiating PBM contracts and formularies.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse levels of management and personnel.
Ability to effectively manage time, balance challenging multiple tasks, work within stringent time frames and execute projects to completion.
Excellent organizational and communication skills including effective writing capability.
Strong analytical experience in making plan decisions including delivering best practices.
Excellent presentation and instructional skills
Ability to plan and execute process improvement initiatives which are measurable and demonstrate improvement.
Work with HRIS Specialist and Anthelio to automate benefit file feeds and improve BAS processes in PeopleSoft for Benefits Department and the end user (employees). Assists in ensuring that existing and new benefit programs are adaptable to standardized computer and reporting systems.
Develops benefit information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management.
Supervises maintenance of human resources records. Supervises maintenance of enrollment, application and claims records for all benefit plans.
The Benefits Director performs difficult, complex, technical and/or specialized office support work, which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skill and a detailed knowledge of the activities and procedures specific to all benefits.
Demonstrated working knowledge of MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of PeopleSoft software.

Department Position Summary:
The Benefits Director is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining Erlanger's employee benefit programs. These programs include but are not limited to Erlanger Health System Defined Benefit Plan, 403b and 401(a) Plan, 457(b), 457(f), Roth retirement accounts; medical programs, dental plans, disability programs, FSA and other insurance programs (e.g., group life, voluntary supplemental life and dependent life, voluntary short term disability program, and ancillary benefit programs).
The Benefits Director will manage the wellness program focusing on employee wellness initiatives using predictive modeling to develop programs with a team of physicians, pharmacists and other management personnel to enhance the health and well-being of EHS' employees.
The Benefits Director is responsible for the development, recommendations and on going monitoring of budget allocations for enterprise-wide benefit programs. He/she must have the ability to analyze complex issues and propose viable solutions. As a manager of within Human Resources, the individual will perform special projects to assist in meeting HR's responsibilities to the organization.
The Director must maintain ongoing knowledge of legislative requirements pertaining to benefit programs and ensure compliance with all such legislation including federal and state laws.
The Director is responsible for new benefit initiatives, including research, analysis, plan development and implementation, followed by an evaluation of effectiveness.
Develops and effectively manages staff while promoting teamwork and alignment with HR's vision and EHS's strategic imperatives.
Organize tasks and set priorities appropriately to best meet the departmental and organizational goals. Must be able to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. The Benefits Director must maintain a professional demeanor when confronted with adversity.
