John Tyler Community College is seeking to fill two Library Assistant positions. Library Assistants, under the supervision of the Library Director and coordination of the Library Associate, work directly with students, faculty and staff to provide information services. Assistants perform a combination of these duties: staff the Information Desk and respond to patron queries that include use of library and other information resources, navigating common software platforms, and troubleshooting computers and equipment; instruct classes; process interlibrary loans; assist with student orientation and engagement activities for the library; and assist with library promotional activities. One position will be based at the Midlothian campus and the other position based at the Chester campus; 29 hours per week; day and evening hours, and alternating Saturdays.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Reference experience in a library. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service. Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a highly technological and team-oriented environment. Flexibility and ability to adapt to ongoing change. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Instructional and/or tutoring experience, instructional preferred. Experience using online resources, for example: e-books, blogs, databases, social media and streaming video.
