The Supply Chain Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling purchase orders, manufacturing work orders and sales order ship dates to support customer requirements. Coordinate the fulfilment of expedites received from the CSS Order Desk with supplier or manufacturing plant. Proactively identifying material shortages to support to achieve delivery schedules. Responsible for material tracking and availability, and expediting material through the process for assigned product lines and maintaining and updating ERP system to ensure data integrity.

Essential Functions:
Plan / Schedule Production & Yard Operations: The incumbent is responsible for assigned manufacturing plants / yards to schedule / maintain purchase orders / manufacturing work orders and sales orders ensuring all customer requirements are met.
  • Create schedules for mfg plants, yards, ship direct suppliers, review material, plant capacities, work with plant management team to ensure sales order customer promise dates are achieved.
  • Managing ERP material planning work bench, creating, releasing and maintaining manufacturing work orders as required to support demand requirements
  • Review and analyze sales order backlog in order to plan and prioritize internal production builds / yard schedules.
  • Monitor and track internal build and ship schedule attainment, work very closely with manufacturing plant and yard management team and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
  • Coordinate expedite requests from CSS/Order Desk, work with Buyer/Planners, Mfg Plant, etc...
  • Full understanding of product lines, schedules, customer promises, material requirements, supplier material coverage, internal factory and external supplier capacity and build plans, supplier delivery schedules, any/all production issues in order to resolve, communicate and escalate where necessary, and ensure a continuous flow of material to meet customer expectations.
  • Follow through on all commitments made and ensure the acceptable completion of tasks, plan integrity, and complete internal and external customer satisfaction. Provide accurate and timely information to support Sales Order promise date requirements and communicate any/all exceptions to the customer service / order desk team as appropriate
  • Work to ensure all ECNs are communicated, understood and implemented with manufacturing plant and any cost impacts identified and disposition.
  • Back-up Senior buyer planner for assigned mfg plant / yard.
The incumbent is responsible for compliance with all applicable L.B. Foster standards and local regulations for the assigned locations. The incumbent will be required to provide data for supply chain related ISO and other audit protocols required by the business. The incumbent is also accountable for any corrective actions generated by audits affecting buying / planning activities at that location.

Key Relationships & Purpose:Internal:
  • Buyer / Planners – Daily communication concerning the incoming material to support work orders for internal builds, distribution sales order shipment schedules.
  • Customer Sales Support/Order Desk – Daily communication regarding customer requirements, sales order prioritization, and any issues impacting committed ship schedules.
  • Plant / yard management team
  • Product Management – Regular communication concerning consumption patterns, recommended adjustments to forecast/inventory strategy, and lead-time changes.
External:
  • Supply Base – Communication to review open purchase order due dates
Success Factors, Skills & Experience:
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing plants and inventory management processes.
  • Working knowledge and experience with the manufacturing make / buy / supply practices and the administrative processes used to support them.
  • Self-starter. Must be able to contribute to creating his/her own job content.
  • Leadership, creativity, strategic thinking, project management, change management, adaptability and strong communications & people skills are critical.
  • Understanding and supporting the needs of internal customers.
The incumbent is expected to act independently in resolving tactical issues within their area of responsibility, and to develop buying plans in cooperation with the location General Manager and the Corporate Director of Supply Chain. He/she is expected to interact routinely with other disciplines in the business unit including manufacturing, engineering, sales, maintenance, IT, financial and corporate L.B. Foster functions to achieve the business objectives. The incumbent acts in cooperation with the location operating staff to establish a continuous improvement program for cost reduction and service excellence

Minimum Qualifications:Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Minimum education level is a 4-year undergraduate degree in supply chain, business, engineering or accounting, some related experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of MRP concepts and applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong goal setting, planning and prioritizing skills.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as Visual / Oracle / SAP.
Proven focus on customer satisfaction and ability to work as part of a diverse team
